By forming groups and talking to powerful people. I don't think there is any issue with Pakistan not willing to work with GCC on military technology areas, its the other way around.

Either that or Western pressure as Western manufactures income rely heavily on Arab weapon purchases. Either that or deliberately limiting industrial progress in their countries so the locals can keep relying on bailouts and further pampering by the local leaders.

IMO , this iz a scheme , saud arabia oil money is just being used to reconstruct ukraine , as ukraine promises to fight russia and work for the EU

What scheme? The factory will be located in KSA and obviously this will benefit KSA the most. Antonov is a company on the brick of economic collapse but they are still one of the best on their field and have dozens of experienced engineers and company leaders. They are just broke.

A win-win situation for KSA.

You are also wrong with Russia. In recent weeks relations between Russia have improved. Salman and his regime have a new policy and they want closer ties to Russia but also China who are already our biggest trading partners.

They won't bet everything on the US anymore.

Summary:

- New factory will be making an improved version of the Antonov An-32 called AN-132, which is a twin-engined turboprop military transport vehicle, and acquiring full property and intellectual rights to the plane by SA.

- The deal includes training of Saudi engineers and technicians by Antonov.

- This new deal will create the necessary infrastructure and transfer essential know-how and technology of making large and military airplanes, in order to absorb higher technologies from U.S. corporations, specifically Pratt & Whitney and Honeywell.

- The AN-132 plane will be tested in Saudi airspace within 18 months.

- There's a high demand for the AN-32, especially in India.

- The new factory will be in Taif, near the new Taif int. Airport.

- When asked about Antanov and why was it selected for this deal. KACST's chief said that Antonov was one of the top 3 plane manufacturers in the world, along with Boeing and Airbus, and it was the only one that agreed to this level of Tot (transfer of technology) and corporation and that It also make the biggest airplanes.

- The full financial details of the deal was not disclosed and may "never be."

If we leave it up to west they would always have us dependent on them for military technology.

If we leave it up to west they would always have us dependent on them for military technology.

True but we must admit that they currently have the technological edge and that has been the case for 500 years. Earlier it were the people of the ME/Greater Middle East/China that made that for a very, very long time.

Yet nothing should really prevent us from working with each other and combining money, manpower, talent, ambition etc. into a useful cocktail.

That would be the most logical thing to do but something tells me that our leaders don't have fully free hands if you know what I am referring to here.

Anyway I think that Antonov is a good start and that this will bring a lot of good. All the best to Ukraine as well.

.
P.S: Ukrainian women are hot as hell. Time to "import" more Slavs like in the "good old days". Joking aside.

I totally agree.
I miss those days

I wasn't expecting this kind of Joke on Public forum...

May I refer you to the Iranian section then, it's the biggest joke of all :enjoy:

The Muslim world and especially KSA/GCC/Arab world and Pakistan should cooperate much more on such fronts. I don't understand why this is not happening more?

Shame on those idiotic leaders of ours.

It's not in the best interests of the already established powers in the world, simple as that. Why would the help facilitate or encourage or not sabotage the emergence of a new powerful entity, that may cause them never ending headaches in the future. It can be done by by placing corrupt leaderships in decision making and sensitive places among many other things. Its not personal, it's just the power struggle that existed since the dawn of time. If we want something we must earn it.

Great investment. Since oil is a finite resource, Saudi Arabia is on the right track to develop the know-how of aeroplane manufacturing. It is a win-win situation for both countries where Ukraine acquires badly-needed financial resources and Saudi Arabia obtains technology transfers to manufacture these planes and others in the future. :enjoy:

Hopefully, Saudi Arabia will sign other deals to acquire other technologies in the Ukrainian market. When countries are in dire need, that is when to throw them a lifeline and obtain whatever technical-knowhow that is available in that country's market.

A state-owned enterprise Antonov, the only Ukrainian aircraft manufacturing company, belonging to the state concern Ukroboronprom, has launched production of a new light multi-purpose transport aircraft An-132, jointly with Saudi Arabia, the company's head Mykhailo Gvozdev told journalists during a presentation at the plant.

The first prototype aircraft is to be completed by the end of 2016.

"At the end of 2016 we plan flight tests. This will be the first prototype," Gvozdev said and added that the production of 100 such aircrafts is planned.

However, Oleksandr Khokhlov, the director of An-132 program, did not specify the terms of production.

"Joint production scheme will be considered. The first aircrafts may be assembled in our country, and then painted in Saudi Arabia. Perhaps, they may wish to establish a large scale assembly and set to develop a full-range production on their territory," Khokhlov said.

He also noted that the project would involve leading aviation companies, including Pratt & Whitney Canada, General Electric, Honeywell, Liebherr and Hamilton Sundstrand.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the An-132 design project was developed in April this year, and in June it was showcased at Le Bourget Paris Air Show-2015.

It was also reported that in June 2015, Antonov signed a participation agreement for the design and construction of an aviation plant in Saudi Arabia. The plant is to be furnished with modern equipment, allowing the implementation of new aviation technologies in the aircraft production.

The company estimates the market demand for the aircraft to be 900 units.

Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko attends a ceremony to unveil the first prototype of a new An-132 transport aircraft (UNIAN photo)

New multi-purpose transport aircraft, the modernised version of the An-32, is assembled without any components made in Russia

Ukraine's state-owned enterprise Antonov, the only Ukrainian designer and manufacturer of cargo and passenger planes, on December 20 presented the first prototype of a new An-132 transport aircraft, UNIAN reports.

Ukraine's top officials -- President Petro Poroshenko and Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksandr Turchynov -- have witnessed the aircraft roll-out in Kyiv.

The ceremony was also attended by top management of Ukraine's state-owned defense giant Ukroboronprom and Antonov design bureau, which is part of the Concern.

The representatives of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which are customers and partners in the project, were also present.

According to the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, until 2035, the world will need about 260 of such aircraft. "Very few countries can celebrate such holiday as the launch of a new aircraft model," he said.

The production of the first sample of An-132 was launched in September 2015. At the same time, Antonov has signed a number of agreements with Saudi Arabia on the deliveries of these aircraft starting from 2017, as well as on the joint design and production of aircraft plant in its territory where mass production of An-132 is planned.

Ukrainian company management has assessed the needs of the world market in such aircraft to about 900 units over the next 20 years.

The source also said the lightweight aircraft that can fly at 28,000 feet and has a capacity to carry 9.2 tons has many features, including the ability to land on uneven runway.

“The airplane can cross 4,500 km with the speed of 550 km an hour. It is fully equipped with the latest technical and military technology. The project came as a result of the city’s agreement with the Ukraine›s Antonov Company,” said the source.

He said the airplane will be the first Saudi-Ukrainian airplane to hit the skies of Saudi Arabia in early 2017.

The source also said nationalizing the production of airplanes will open more employment opportunities for Saudi individuals and more work opportunities for companies in both the private and public sectors.

The first airplane to ever land in Saudi Arabia was in 1945 with the Kingdom›s founder King Abdul Aziz on board. The airplane was a Douglas DC3 Dakota and it landed in Afif. The airplane was presented to the king by then US President Roosevelt after their historic Suez Canal meeting.
