Saudi Arabia wants CPEC’s extension to Red Sea, Africa

it would be a game changer project to link the Gawader to Masqat and with the construction of 365 km long bridge and this is very much possible with self anchored suspension since china has already constructed the world longest sea bridge i.e. Jiaozhou Bay Bridge which is 41.58 km long using the same method and according to state run CCTV the cost of the bridge is 1.5 billion US $ ........... so it requires a total 13.1 billion US$ to link the Gawadar or Jewani with Masqat.

Dont you think a country is willing to to spend 40 billion US$ to reach to gawdar will ever hesitate to reach the arab world by spending just 13 billion more? and if Saudis and other arab countries are jumping in to this project, does finance will be an issue any more?

As far as I know, both the countries are adversaries and have a long history. But may be economics can change that. However Iran itself is developing a port with the help of India (Pakistan's main adversary) so Iran may not be very keen on becoming part of CPEC according to my simplified analysis. While KSA and other gulf countries are not very fond of Iran so they will naturally like to divert their trade via CPEC, Pakistan (with which they have historically good relations) and KSA's statement is totally inline with that. I guess Pakistan will decide in the best interest of the nation and keep the old friends and much bigger trading potential alive instead of including a country that at times have been much less friendly.

Rivalries aside but until the current embassy assaulting fiasco..the trade between Saudi and Iran were normal business and two major conglomerates the Savola group and Aujan group have billions in investments in Iran..

Saudi and IRan are like two brothers with common father and different mother..they will fight..they will get close to murdering each other..but then its business as usual.

.
frankly ... they can avoid even Iranian threat by using the 'Sur' an eastern city of Oman as the point of connection coz it come right in-front of Gawader and Iranian coastal boundaries ends well before these international waters

That's new knowledge for me. Thanks.

China Opens World’s Longest Ocean Bridge Measuring 26 Miles in Length!

Friday, July 1, 2011 at 2:40 pm | Posted by Carscoop Carscoop

China opened today to the public not just one or two, but amazingly four of the world’s longest over-sea bridges. Three of the bridges are part of the Beijing-Shanghai High Speed Railway, which made its maiden trip today.

This project began in 2008, cost around US$33 billion and employed approximately 10,000 workers. It is expected to carry double the number of passengers than before (80 million versus approximately 40 million), whilst also reducing the time it takes to make the journey from 10 to less than 4 hours!

in your above video at 0:36 second presenter also mentioned the amount as 1.5 Billon US$ and that is what i have mentioned earlier. these are official figures by the chines govt

further it has a life expectancy of 100 years well thanks for adding this info through video .. i was really unaware about that

why not bro? its very much possible with funds coz already china has built
Danyang–Kunshan Grand Bridge which is 164.8 km though it is a railway bridge but it pass by almost all type of terrains though Some web sources mistakenly confuse the Danyang–Kunshan Bridge with the Jiaozhou Bay Bridge or a segment of it. The two bridges are unrelated.

@BRAVO_

Most of it is just viaduct over land.

The Arabian Sea is between mile to three miles deep and would have to be 5 times longer than the longest bridge in the world. No bridge structure could possibly be built at that depth. Only Straits of Hormuz might offer some possibility way in future like maybe 50-100 years.

But Iranians seems to be interested in CPEC too....our Gwadar and iranian Chabahar (port, iran is building with help of india) are going to be linked probably....If Iran joins CPEC, the influence of Pakistan will grow and neutralize indian clout in Iran.

In an earlier post of mine I have stated it can be connected though
1) Tunnel providing high speed rail connectivity.
2) Tunnel providing road.
3) High speed Ships like CAT.
Below are links of some very fast ships that are being used to carry passengers and vehicles.

A bridge connection is not possible because of two major issues.
1) The worlds bussiest shipping lanes.
2) There are five bridge types arch, beam, cable-stayed, suspension, and truss. Other variations include cantilever and move able bridges. None of these can be built.

Tunnel under STRAIT of HURMUZ... the depth there is juts 50-100 m (where artificial islands have been built)..
revive RCD links between Turkey, Iran and Pakistan...
Tehn include india, BD, mayanmar, Thai and Malaysia through road links

This is what you are suggesting.

The link for Europe is through RCD not Africa.

I would rather say that over the sea or under the sea roads will not be best solution in immediate future rather modern fast ferries can be very useful. Once the trade begins and the real trade volumes are known, accurate predictions can be made and alternatives including, but not limited to, under-sea or over the sea connections can be made where feasible. Right now the focus should be on making it successful and secure trade link with ample scope for future expansion but take things gradually in stepwise manner that can be achieved instead getting overwhelmed by complexity and cost of project and nothing is achieved. Plus building the castles in the air is not illegal but real world is slightly different though.

.
Its nothing but lepa-poti and Mutual TC. Saudis can benefit little from Gawadar because of close geographic proximity.
Any Land route of CPEC joining KSA would have to pass through Iran and Iraq, not to mention the distance would be larger. KSA is better off finding sea through Oman.

.
Logically there can be two routes

Out Bound Traffic:
Route to Africa (Short Ship + Road)
  • Gwadar (Pakistan) - Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) - Egypt - Africa (Ship 1-2 days then 7 hour road trip)
  • Sub Internal Riyadh - Iraq
  • Sub Internal Riyadh - Syria
  • Sub Internal Riyadh - UAE
  • Sub Internal Riyadh - Oman

Route to Europe (Train)
  • Gawadar (Pakistan) - Tehran (Iran) - Turkey - Europe (Train Link)
  • Sub Internal - Tehran (Iran ) - Iraq - Jordan

  • CPEC.png

There can be a Oman - South Africa based trade route as well
