The Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) formally has unveiled its first CH-4 armed unmanned aerial vehicle in a ceremony celebrating the 50th anniversary of the King Faisal Air College in Riyadh.

The new CH-4 is an unmanned combat aerial vehicle developed by the China Academy of Aerospace Aerodynamics of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC). The CH-4 series of drones looks like a US MQ-9 Reaper developed by General Atomics.

CH-4 is capable of firing air-to-ground missile from altitude of 5,000 meters, therefore the aircraft can stay outside of effective range of most anti-aircraft guns. It also allow CH-4 to be able to fire from a position that provides wider viewing area.

KSA and China have had cordial ties since diplomatic relations were established. Ancient Arabia/Arab world and ancient China have enjoyed millennia old ties, mostly based on trade. The first and last time to date that Arabs and Chinese were ever in a direct conflict with each other was in the 700's when the Arab Abbasid caliphate/empire defeated the Han Chinese Tang Dynasty at the Battle of Taras in 751.

China is in fact the biggest trading partner of KSA and China's trade with the Arab world is only rivaled by the trade that they enjoy with the US and a few other nearby countries such as Japan and South Korea if I am not mistaken. In fact the Chinese government is so interested in improving ties with the Arab world that the Chinese government has created an "Arab Policy Paper" the first such paper to date and until now something unseen.

China knows that the Arab world due to its extreme riches in terms of natural resources, minerals, hugely strategic location (center of the world basically), large, growing and young populations, as the gateway to Africa (another upcoming economic power due to sheer population size and unfilled potential), the geopolitical perspective, is a very important area for China to be present in.

In fact the Arab world gives China an direct access to the West and Europe as well. Imagine for a while, that sometime in 2050, that Europe will be surrounded by (potentially) pro-Chinese Arab states. This will give China a lot of benefits because so far China has been confined to her own sphere of influence. Of course aside from economic investments in developing African (Sub-Saharan mostly) states etc.

Such a relationship would open a lot of doors. If the wider Arab/Muslim world could join forces with China economically, politically, militarily, etc. I suspect that a lot of good for both parties could emerge. Certainly something better than the current partnership with the West.

Anyway KSA and China had close military dealings already in the 1980's and 1990's (look no further than missiles) and recently this has only intensified a lot.

KSA and China held an military exercise in China (for the first time ever) last year as well.

Last year an strategic security pact was also signed.

A few days ago the Chinese navy visited KSA (Jeddah) and the GCC as well.

And currently (outside of the military and economic sphere) the cultural sphere is emerging quickly, best exemplified with the ongoing "Roads of Arabia" exhibition at the National Museum of Beijing that millions of Chinese are expected to visit.

So much for KSA/GCC blindly following Uncle Tom. That was never the case but ignorant clowns will of course repeat themselves to death. Good for them that they know nothing because I suspect that a lot of "surprises" will emerge from now on and for the foreseeable future.

Yes, indeed. China has shown that it is willing to offer JV's and ToT to partners and the people in the Arab and Muslim world, have much greater trust of Chinese than Westerners as there is no historical burden or rivalries as neighbors often have it or neighboring regions.

Both parties would do well if they focused on even more cooperation on all mutually beneficial fields. China, Arab/Muslim world that is. I believe in that strongly and ever since I became politically interested as a teenager this has been my belief. I have never changed it.

Excellent write up, indeed a win-win relationship. China has a no interference policy and don't like to tell our friends where and how to put furniture in your own house like Uncle Sam does with non-stop lecturing about democracy

Regarding the Arab Iran rivalry, we believe in cooperation and don't pick sides. We are neutral and would like to stay out of it and keep a distance

Why is pakistan not opting for this?
Pakistan working on better options and have its own development program. But, Pakistan army rarely show the testing weapons.
Few years ago Chinese drone crashed during testing phase by Pak army.

KSA has indigenous UAV's as well. However cooperation never hurts and the CH-4 has already proven itself in battle in Iraq, Sinai and Yemen.

Old news my friend.

The western world took advantage of the good hearted, open, democratic, lawful and brilliant Muslim civilization in Europe for more than 800 years, they took every bit of knowledge and used it in a Machiavelli style to defeat their teachers, but not only that, they have improved the style to unprecedented heights in manipulating the human psyche, first through colonialism; by injecting an inferiority complex in the conquered populace and then trying to keep them there indefinitely, second through the appropriation of knowledge per se and its monopolization..They did this with China (one of the oldest civilizations) too, and since both the Muslims and the Chinese have shared knowledge between them for centuries, as well as trade (The famous silk road), they were targeted and weakened ( by own faults first and "helped" by the West afterwards)..In a nutshell, knowledge is power, and who ever holds it and improves on it and makes it practical will hold the most power, China understood this and is now on top of it, The Arab/Muslims fortunately or unfortunately not being a one nation, are just beginning to grasp this reality.._Like if they have never been there for almost a thousand years_, let's just say that the Western work on the Arab/Muslim psyche was worst than the opium effects on the Chinese human behaviour, productivity and health during western presence..
The recent awakening of the Arab/Muslim world and the actions being taken, makes us hopeful for a brighter future alongside our Chinese old and dependable friends.. there are also some Western countries that are willing to help through common interests, So we need to become strong again in all fields of life and share with our best friends while taking lessons from history..
The Silk Road is coming again with all it implies, not only for the benefit of China and the Muslim world, but potentially for most parts of the world..

Brilliant!
