Saudi Arabia signs preliminary arms contract from Russia worth 3.5 billion dollars

Exactly. Obligatory ToT and local manufacturing is the way forward. Having Russia as a partner in this important process cannot be a negative thing. 3.5 billion is not much either for KSA.

As for tanks KSA is quite impenetrable for any outside invader (due to size and geography) outside of the Northeastern part and from there on access to coastal Eastern Province. That was the supposedly planned route of Saddam Hussein and the only available route from the North. That itself is a highly strategic area of KSA but nevertheless tanks should not be our priority unless locally manufactured. Luckily numerous mountains ranges across KSA and deserts, let alone sheer size make an invasion a nightmare for outsiders.

The highlighted part of your post is what I look most forward to. The recent cooperation with Antonov proves how interesting such a combination can become if done correctly.

Don't forget that Russia will probably play a role in the nuclear power sector of KSA. Cooperation is already occurring with a lot of powers.

2 year old news:

https://sputniknews.com/business/201608301044778717-russia-saudi-arabia-rosatom/

All done under MBS. Times are changing and for the better and quick. It's a great thing and long overdue as the potential is enormous.
The JVs are the best, but combined with ToT and local manufacturing is way better..the 500 or so tanks _not including the old ones that need replacements_ is not enough for KSA_, due exactly to its shear size.. If Saudi Arabia gets ToT for the T-90MS, it can manufacture as much as it needs and look for other heavy MBTs when they will be available..not only that, Egypt is getting it too with local production and since KSA and Egypt are allies they might cut a very good deal with Russia for more ToT.. since we are talking about at least 1000 tanks for the two of them..
Even the SU-30/35 was seen with western tech in Malaysia..and it looked good..so that is another possibility where we can see a JV, as well as air defense systems and tactical missiles..

.
So what those 480 billion for since they want to buy techs from Russia?

110 immediate deal then 35 billion every year what all these going to buy?.

Wind direction is changing in the region . after creating few enemies outside and changes inside they need these types of deals to say we have bigger guys support .
Islamic alliance against terrorism and 110 billion deal then historic change of bin nayef all these actions will change allies and enemies positions inside and outside KSA so only time will tell actions are for defensive ( changes in Iraq and Syria ) or offensive reasons (opening another front) .

You can count on the defensive part, but there is also an offensive/defensive part too, without wanting to open another front.. Just like the Iranian missiles are offensive defence! are they made to open another front? the answer is no..

They already tried their filthy strategy in Iraq by appointing some terrorist support to call for Sunni leader convention in Baghdad this move is another try to stir the chaos in Iraq for another round.

The thing that I'm sure about is that sunnis of Iraq stung real bad by isis and baathist so these people wont accept any another adventure in their homes

Another thing I'm sure about which is Iraq after 2014 isn't like Iraq before 2014 they should forget about that at all

Lastly if the time come and a confrontation happen NO one will protect them or save them from the biggest change in their life

This may sound a bit to optimistic or high ambition but remember every thing is possible in this changing world.

.
Didn't the Gulf Alliance + Egypt claim Qatar was responsible for the hundreds of thousands of deaths in Syria?

Isn't Russia more involved with Syria?

.
Any one who wants to fight any country, should attack KSA.They are good at leaving there weapons in battlefield. You can get them and attack your opponent:devil:

nice
do you want to buy merkava tank?

I have not read that much nonsense in a very long time. This is impressive even for PDF standards.

I will leave with this below:

That's a possibility indeed. However I want to point out that Saudi Arabian-Russian arms deals have been talked about for an eternity (almost) and nothing ever materialized. Maybe this time around something will happen.

The South Korean route should also be further strengthened. A lot of potential in that cooperation.

I know, yet this time a preliminary deal was signed, that is the difference..this time around.. there are some very interesting "things" going on with South Korea, no worries there..Now its Russian turn For ToT and good weapon systems.. this will also be related to some civilian projects like the nuclear plants.. Russia might get 4 of the 16 projected civilian nuclear reactors, China 4 to 8, and South Korea 4 to 8 too_one of them will get 8.. South Korea is very fast in building power plants as it has showed in the UAE, but it all depends on if Japan will get involved in the project or not.._
Russia has some nice weapons in air defence and land warfare, as well as in air warfare and missiles for both, the navy is also good and being modernized, they have some of the best submarines in the world diesel and nuclear and a lot of innovative torpedoes like the Shikval and surface-to-surface along with surface-to-ground missiles like the Kaliber and the Onix to name a few.. So the shopping list is quite impressive filled with a lot of goodies.. on condition that it comes with TOT and local production..Politics in Syria also play a role..
I Think Russia will go for it, since they have officially talked about JVs with KSA, the amounts of money involved can be huge, more than $60 billion if we take the nuclear plants into consideration, that alone is worth $20 billion for 4 reactors like the Egyptian ones.. it might be $40 billion if they make 2 plants.. plus $40 to $60 billion in weapons, ToT, and JVs that can bring a lot of profit to both .. So the least to say is that Russia has at least ~$100 billion to make in the next decade, plus many strategic interest with KSA, like the control of Oil prices for instance..
