Saudi Arabia says it won't rule out building nuclear weapons

As far as I know, Saudis have advanced a lot in the fields of science and technology. Saudi government has laid a lot of importance on acquiring technologies in last two decades. They finance Ph.D programs for Saudi citizens in western especially US universities. If I remember correctly, Saudi government bears all expenses if a citizen chooses to do Ph.D. In my reckoning if they are bent on developing nuclear weapons they will most likely succeed, in time. Take into account their financial and diplomatic muscle and it becomes obvious.

The decision however is more of political nature than scientific. Iranian nuclear program has direct bearing to Saudi program just like Indian nuclear program triggered Pakistani program. KSA will weigh it out but will keep pressure on West by staying ambiguous so that they don't allow nuclear leverage to Iran.

Just how regional and international politics work.

Even if you acquire scientists, building a nuclear weapon requires at least some sort of blueprints. Even Irani blueprints came from Pakistan. So to acquire blue prints they will have to commit to heavy industrial espionage. Pakistan had to steal blueprints all across the Europe. Without blueprints they will have to go down Manhattan Project pathway.

.
indeed, as i have seen, you arabs kiss any europeans feet like gods... wow... amazing... it is humbling to see who the clowns are then. you have to hire outsiders to defend your borders.

you are not the same people who went across from magrib to indonesia... they were the learned people. You and your 'modern' are my friend in the dark ages. Even the prophets are turning in their graves to see the state you are in. You have brought shame to your own religion, what else can be said.... you just deserve pity and lots of theraphy.

Indeed, they are high on camel dung and hiring others like prostitutes to go their bidding.

100% spot on

My friend, see how many scientific papers are written by the entire arab/muslim world. They are less than 0.5% of what is produced in terms of academic population percentage vs just any other denomination. when was the last scientific breakthru noted.... heck, KSA even threw out the doctor who first suspected MERS as a seperate corona virus.

When a biological virus is not even given any thought, do you think they have any brains for anything else?

You don't have to lack the objectivity with an emotional outburst just because they have illegally occupied your ancestral land.

Most Chinese don't like the US either. However, we never deny the US contribution to the modern world.
You are 100% correct. Acknowledging and going to learn knowledge in any part of the world is the key. It brings thought and progress. Regretfully, these people just dont have any of that.

It is indeed a huge shame, yet it was their civilization which was far progressive and learned just over 600 years ago; and tolerant and willing to learn. Now, the only thing they learn is hate, fight, and fight. They are good at labelling and blaming others, yet dont accept that they are themselves totally flawed.

It is like a toothless tiger.

A race indeed that even their prophets would be ashamed of.

A nation which embraces learning and education as part of its core belief and is willing to move forward beyond the confines of dark ages has a lot going for it. Unfortunately, despite having the weath, they made a deal with the dark side and keep on webbing false webs of delusions and conspiracies. The rest of the world has to stand back and wonder what is wrong with these people.

It is truly ironic that was just two days ago, i was speaking with a very learned rabbi and discussion this exact issue. It comes down to education.

95% of the degrees in KSA are all religious. Their rulers unlike China's are happy in that status quo as it does not challenge them. China on the other hand gives billions in research and higher education. I appreciate the Chinese leadership in the progress they have made for China - yes there is other challenges but it is phenomenal to see how many hundreds of millions have shifted in terms of economic status.

When the barriers of hate are removed, then only a society can progress.

my 2 cents.

There needs to be an understanding of Saudi Arabia past the stereotypical image people seem to have of it. Saudi has been spending on research and education and working on modernising itself. The lazy Arab stereotype has to be rethought, because one needs to understand that their own nations have also been stereotyped. Having money and friendly nations helping you is no crime, and no one will care how things are done as long as they are.
But do some research before making theories which a mixture of hate, lack of knowledge, and egotistic behaviour which borders on idiocy.

that is a fact in which world, you need to research before you make up numbers.

It has been spending much, but still nothing has changed. A lot of Saudis are unemployed out of CHOICE. They are not lazy but still want others to fight their wars?

Very simple, I am a researcher and academic; i have travelled to these countries to give lectures and papers. I say what I see.
Arabs are lazy, egotistical, and racists. that is a fact.

Okay I will break down wht you said point by point tonight, for now research the changes from 2005 onwards.. Look at KAUST as a guidelines for change.

Unemployment has been a problem with older generations, the newer one wants to work. Talk to Arabs rather then stereotypical images of the people

It was not a stereotypical statement. I can show you a poll if you want.

100% on the mark. They just sit and do nothing and lament and blame.
The quality of Saudi professors is a joke to say the least. They sit, smoke, and get fat. They go overseas to study but come back and do nothing. There is no drive to move anything further. When a society has no motivation in its core, you cannot do anything.

Amazing... I was there a few weeks ago, I have travelled extensively in KSA not in just cities but outside as well; they just dont work. In hotels, the reception are the young KSA citizens, but the entire workforce in hotels in outsider labour who are treated as slaves.
Go outside the cities and see the poverty as well. It is not paradise they are making it out to be.

This thread and the latest posts are hilarious.

Please continue guys and other self-proclaimed experts that have never stepped on KSA soil and maybe met 1 or 2 Saudi Arabians in their life.

On this forum alone almost everyone of the 30 (active or semi-active ones) or so Saudi Arabian users are highly educated. We have engineers of all kind, architects, doctors and economists who are studying all over the world or inside KSA.

You do know that bullshitting is a sin right? You are a joke. A "lecturer". What did you teach? How to be an idiot and how to put empty statements out of your ***?

Your obsession about KSA and Arabs is cute. As if you South Africans don't have enough of problems to look after. Just hilarious.

Sadly for you the interest the other way around is non-existent hence why you are desperate for our attention it seems.

During the Gaddafi regime there was a government building constructed in Libya by the Italian contractors and workforce. After the construction was complete few trucks arrived with Libyan workers and TV crew. Italian workers were asked to stand away from the building and the Libyan workers started acting as they are working on the site. It was filmed and later shown on TV that the building was constructed and completed by the Libyan workforce. Italians were amused but were happy with their bonus cheques. Same is happening in many oil rich Arab states.

If my memory serves me well, isn't 'King Fahad University' in Riyadh one of the best and most advanced in the region, if not continent or world. As I have heard, they have an international faculty with strong credentials. Feel free to correct me.

Building an advanced technological base takes time. I would not claim KSA is centre of academia as of now but in my opinion they have made a strong push in this field. If they stay this course, there is no reason we will not be seeing scientific research taking roots in KSA. And if at all, we should be happy to see this happening and support this approach of KSA government. Everyone stands to benefit from it.

Lazy or not. Successful or not. Let time tell the story.
