Saudi Arabia defeated Argentina 2-1 ending Argentina's 35 undefeated games run - One of the biggest underdog stories in modern World Cup history

@Khan2727 aka several times permanently banned @saif-al-arab (saif-al-arab.167867)

Embarrassing performance from Iran. They are never going to make it out of a World Cup group. They have one of the worst World Cup records of any nation in World Cup history.

Only the Arab looking Irani player (Taremi) was somewhat good.

And why the hell did they not sing their own national anthem? A protest against the Mullahs?

Iran is lucky that their group is one of the weakest so a miracle (them qualifying for the first time to the knockout stage) is a possibility as Wales and USA are really weak teams.

Curious to see how the other 4 Arab teams not named Qatar will do. Unluckily that they are all in difficult groups.

Qatar hosting the World Cup is a bit of joke really. Of all 20 + Arab countries, somehow the smallest Arab nation (there are just around 300.000 native Qataris) got it? A country that until their Asian Cup win against Japan in 2019 (credit where credit is due) had little or no football heritage?

Also to call it an Arab World Cup is a bit of a joke too when Arabs, if Arab expats are included, don't even make up 1/3 of the total population of Qatar.

Which is why you have those hordes of Bharti (mostly from Kerala) football fans that apparently are fans of every single team participating.

Anyway no doubt that the stadiums, infrastructure etc. is top class and that the Qataris should be able to become great hosts when the tournament ends.

First time that a World Cup has been hosted in such a small nation and with so few geographic distances. Normally there are huge geographical distances between host cities.

For instance in 2026, Canada, USA and Mexico are going to co-host the World Cup. Talk about enormous geographic distances between the host cities.

It was apparently a fake accusation by some disgruntled Bahraini journalist. Bahrain and Qatar apparently have some stupid beef that goes way back. Qatar is accusing Bahrain of occupying some Qatari islands. Or the other way around.

I was surprised to learn that this is the case.

Mehdi Taremi is not Arab

He can't speak a single word arabic

He is as Arab as you're Pakistani @saif-al-arab.167867

Stop spreading your religious secterian and butthurt posts against Iran & Qatar

Agreed, Haaland is way better than him.

Haaland is a better goalscorer (he is a typical number 9 and poacher) but Mbappé (he is half Algerian Arab btw) is the better overall player. He is more complete and his goalscoring is not far behind Haaland. Look at his CL statistics. He already won the World Cup with France in 2018 as a young teenager while being the star.

He is a top, top class talent.

Only on PDF can you see a user cry about imaginary Arab bias (fully deserved KSA win - in fact the penalty awarded to Argentina, their only goal, was a joke, the referee had a Argentina bias throughout the entire match), then procedes to support another Arab country (Tunisia) a few minutes later. PDF or a case of schizophrenia.

Messi and Argentina is having a hard time.

Saudi fan invasion of Qatar. Now they just need to call the Saudi Arabian military in.

Mbappe mostly flops outside Ligue 1. He needs to prove himself in EPL, Serie A or La Liga. Haaland is destroying EPL right now, no one saw this coming. At the moment Haaland is a far better player.

PSG does, not so much Mbappé himself. Mbappé has 34 goals in 50 CL games for PSG. That is a really good statistic.

For instance last season he did everything for them to advance against Real Madrid. He was the best player in both games and scored in each game. Not his fault that PSG collapsed. Football is a team sport after all. He cannot score, defend and be a goalkeeper at the same time.

Problem is that PSG plays in Ligue 1 (still a top 5 league in Europe) but they are not challenged regularly which is probably their main weakness and it shows in important CL moments.

Also let us not forget that Mbappé was arguably the best player during the FIFA 2018 World Cup when he was just 19 years old. He already won the most important trophy that a footballer can win (World Cup) being the main man/star at such a young age.

Also Haaland, which all due respect to the "Norwegian cyborg", but he has not proven/won anything yet. He moved to the by far best/most dominant team (Man City) in the Premier League. Of course his beginning (goalscoring) has been amazing but let us see how he will perform in big CL matches. Man City is a better team than PSG also and they have a better manager (Pep) too.

Also before Mbappé was bought by PSG, he won the league (defeating PSG) with Monaco being their best player, also reaching the Champions League semifinals back in 2017.

Also he reached the CL final in 2020, losing to a Bayern team that they might/should have won against based on chances. He was not that good in that game. Anyway I don't like his greed and the fact that he did not move to Real Madrid which is the team that I support but I cannot deny his class.

Fantastic result for the Saudis. And a great winning goal. Well deserved.

The solidarity/congratulations from all corners of the Arab world (Morocco to Oman) is quite insane. Leading Twitter feeds. But we all know how it is, if had KSA lost 6-2, there would be complaints, lol. Football fans are very fickle.

Anyway Morocco has a very talented team, I am curious how they will perform.

Also Tunisia doing very well so far against Denmark. Could have been leading. Apparently there are 50.000 Tunisian fans in Qatar.

Qatar was very dissapointing against Ecuador who are a good team on their own, but I expected much more from the reigning Asian champions. It was a very weak performance from them.

I think if Saudi had lost like 2-0 to the Argies, Saudis would still be proud. But the win is just amazing. Morocco will either be great or terrible - there's no in-between  although to be honest I've not been keeping up with football these past few months. Having lots of Arabs supporting them against Croatia will definitely help.

Morocco has a lot of players that were born in Europe due to the Moroccan diaspora and they got their football education in top class European football academies.

The problem with say KSA is that the players don't want to move to Europe and improve their level (play at a higher level even though KSA's football league is among the best in Asia if not the best, at least Al-Hilal is the best and most successful Asian football team in history) as they get a higher pay in KSA and they prefer living in KSA. Safe environment and everything.

They prefer being pampered, adored and be in a "safe environment" rather than risk adversity. But the problem is that adversity (in every walk of life) is what makes you improve and what strengthens you.

Anyway now with KSA FINALLY focusing more on sports (in several sports not just football, horse racing, falconry, athletics whatever as before) in general from a young age, I think that we will see changes with them attracting/hiring top coaches in every sports and installing in them an idea of hard work being more important than talent.

Personally I don't understand this as it is a massive weakness for KSA. As we saw against Argentina and knew for the past 30 + years, KSA has had/have many talented players that could easily play in European football leagues. Maybe not for the very best clubs but something like what Moroccan, Algerian and other Arab players do in Europe.

For instance if the likes of Mohamed Salah had stayed in Egypt playing for Al-Ahly, Al-Zamalek or whatever, he would not have developed as he did.

This MUST change for KSA if they want to progress further.

Anyway not the best time to criticize them given their historic win against Argentina but KSA can improve much more on every front.
