Saras back from the brink again as NAL targets 2013 certification

Well, NAL does not enjoy the same funding by the govt to be precise, how can it enjoy without even proving its worth in terms of an Aviation Industry?? All these years it had been co partnering Mahindra, ISRO and HAL.....

Ok, so I think I misunderstood the funding point you made in post# 11.

. .
One quote of Thomas Edison comes to mind in respect to NAL and the Saras:

The three things that are most essential to achievement are common sense, hard work and stick-to-it-iv-ness.....

I thought it was very fitting!

.
Wtf are they gonna do with this 14 seater plane? i mean honestly. The business tycoons who wanna buy a luxury jet to show off are certainly not gonna buy a NAL plane. The military doesn't need 14 seaters. I mean what are they gonna transport individual platoons now? bleh.

saras in russsia

a bit old.
Saras-Duet saga is resolved for good

As the Russian Interfax-AVN news agency reported in Sept. 8 the light 14-passengers aircraft Saras will follow the modernization according to Myasishchev's specialists recommendations. 'Till today the part of the work was already done. Particularly the expertize of what already done by the Indian specialists was conducted. The package of propositions for modernization was formulated' - said the source in Russian military-industrial complex. 'The second stage of the work is planned to start in Oct. 2010 and finish during the year, although elongation of this schedule is not excluded' - he considers: 'It will be more specific work on finishing, including ground tests. Not much changes in design is expected, but the questions about the safeness and controllability are remained, i.e. the problems which were not resolved by Indians'.

e pointed out that Saras-1 airframe will be modernized, since Saras-2 was crashed. However, in parallel the building of Saras-3 will start.

aras was developed in India on the base of Myasishchev's M-102 'Duet' project, but during the development of Indian version the Indian specialists confronted some problems, the source confirmed. Well,it will be used as a complement(?)/replacement to our Do-228's.i..e, reliable, cheap to operate and a low-cost indigenous turbo-prop transporter..............:-)
I'm sure that there are civilian takers for the Saras(they might not be Tycoons, but our small scale entrepreneurs can opt for this!!!)
and for transporting troops in numbers-this role would be filled by our An-32,Il-76,C-17 etc....................:-)

.
I agree it can serve as a good replacement for the dorniers. But I guarantee you the civilian marketing is going to be a major flop. One of the biggest reasons is that owning an aircraft in India is a pain in the arse. With the licences and registrations and permissions, its not like the UK where you can just fly one out of London's 38 recreational airfields. So forget the small scale entrepreneur thing.

Well the Saras has 'n' number of Dorniers to replace so hopefully the production line is alive and kicking till the RTA-70 takes that spot.........BTW,nothing to lose for the NAL as this will be their first transporter and hopefully, not the last!!!!!

Well too little too late. I'm beginning to lose faith. Our flagship 'succesful' project is the ALH. go to page 25 and see how many dhruvs we are actually making per year. At this rate we'll have to keep production lines open till god knows when to handle the orders.

Well,I ain't a big fan of HAL or DRDO either so the only thing that i can do is to hope and pray that they fall in line and for the future existence of these PSU's they will have to(eventually!!!)

Do you really think Boeing began aircraft making with a 300-seater plane?

Its not about 14-seater plane market. Its just an excuse. Purpose is to create a launch-pad for bigger things.

People used to laugh when ISRO used to launch those stupid sounding rockets back in 1970's. They used to say, "What are they going to do with these stupid rockets which fly just 5 Km up and dies?"

. .
@KP2-^^^^^^^^Neither did I,until i saw an A/C with turbo-props placed at the end of the fuselage that too facing backwards(Which initially made me laugh but i respect it now.....:P)
