Another gem from Shafaullah Khan Rokhri

@Brass Knuckles , Do you know the meaning of "Jhiki Digree de Velay", I know "Digar Vela" means "afternoon" or the time around "Asar prayer", in fact my mother/grandmother used to say they have offered "Digar prayer" instead of "Asar prayer", but what does word "Jhiki" means here.

. .
I think he means chiki
Cikna means khenchna so maybe it means later part of degar Jo degar nahi hai lekin chik Kar degar bana liya

Yes I know "Chhikna" in western and souther parts of punjab means "khichhna", it is like reversed there. You know we also use "chhikna" in Gujranwala but in rare cases like "huqqa chhikna" or "kamm Chhik kay rakh jawana", I also first thought that "jhiki" may mean here "chhiki" but it didn't make any sense to me.

I've never heard this word just guessed or maybe it is related to jhukna yani dhalti degar ya jhukti degar

@Simurgh jab tez Hawa chalti hai to ham kehtay Hain Jhakhur جھکھر ghula khala hai
And this jhiki I think is same word
this song means
Degar ka waqt Hawa chali chali north ki Hawa

This seems more plausible "dhalti digar" or time just before the sunset.

An interesting fact is that my mother/grandmother used to have indigenous punjabi names for all the prayers like "subah di namaz = Fajar", "Paishi di Namaz = Zuhar", "Digar ki Namaz = Asar", "Shaam di Namaz = Maghrab", "Kuftan di Namaz = Isha". I think it was not just my mother/grandmother etc,, almost all the people 50 years ago used these indigenous punjabi names for the five prayers of the day which were all "time related".

Hi,

Dhaldi deegar---

Dhaldi is going down---the sun going down---

The original saraiki song "bhawain sir di bazi lag javay" before it was copied (aka remade) by coke studio,

I've listened this song sung by local singers here but couldn't find any at youtube maybe due to copyright they sing better than both coke studio and original

Here is jhikhi degree da welay by Arshad tedi

Do you know the meaning of "Jhiki Digree de Velay"

Punjabi word for aakhir is chekir and for aakhri chekari so maybe it means chekari or aakhri part of degar
Pta nahi yeh lafz mujhay kesay yad nahi aya
and jhakhar is also similar which means slower aandhi

. . .
Here comes Shafaullah Rokhr again with an "innocent song" once again, I don't know why but this is one of the most innocent song I have listened in long long times especially the way Shafaullah khan rokhri sings it.
