Sanitation workers to visit China
GURGAON: The urban local bodies department is planning to send some sanitation workers to China to learn better cleaning techniques.
Sources said earlier this year, department's principal secretary Anand Mohan Sharan, along with some senior officials, had visited a Chinese firm, which is successfully running a number of waste-to-energy plants there. Now, the sanitation workers would also visit the same firm to get an insight into the entire waste management process. Also, some sanitation workers will be sent to Lucknow, where the Chinese firm has already set up a plant.
"We feel that sanitation workers should get an opportunity to witness how garbage is collected, transported, processed and disposed. T0hus, we are planning to send some workers to China and some to Lucknow. Their visit should help them gain useful insight," Sharan said.
The department is planning to set up a waste-to-energy plant in Bandhwari by July 2019.
About other steps, the authorities claim that open garbage collection points in the city will be eliminated in coming days. Small vehicles used to transport garbage from colonies to the transfer stations will be fully covered and each vehicle will be monitored using GPS and RFID devices.
"We will ensure efficient waste collection through computerised route mapping. We will also set up a 24hour call centre to receive complaints and grievances of citizens," said Sharan.
