1929, Jinnah defended Ilm-ud-din, a carpenter who murdered a Hindu book publisher for publishing the book "Rangeela Rasool" which was alleged to be offensive towards the Prophet Muhammad. Jinnah's involvement in this controversy showed a greater inclination towards Islamic politics and a shift away from being an advocate for Hindu-Muslim unity

And Jinnah told him "you have no hope" for an acquittal.

They could very well be but their technique of imposing their views is unacceptable and hence the state reaction.

If they were not violent, they would be allowed to live but when their belief challenged the state, they had to be answered back the way they intend to make their voices heard, through violence.

I have no qualms with them but I cannot let them impose their ideas on me through force.
