Sale of more than 200 tanks Leopard 2E to Saudi Arabia

when people start to spend billion on weapons like this tank, i start to think about war. what do you think of? Christmas?. saudi wants to control iran lol good luck with that.
and before you say its for defense then Saudi is defended by America and France, so i doubt the saudi are worried about iran attacking them because iran wont just attack another country its not their policy, they will attack when attacked.

Christmas?? Huh?! Are you trying to be funny sunshine? If you dont know how to be funny then just simply dont try as it doesnt look nice...

BACK TO TOPIC...I think you have just totally either misunderstood or overlooked my point!! Why should a country have to rely on anyone else to defend it!!! Pakistan relied on America at one time and look what happened when we needed them...!!

To be prepared for worse case senario's is the best planning in my opinion. Saudi has been spending billions and billions on defence for decades...but despite this i dont remember them going into a major war or invading another country! Regardless, of how many countries are providing protection or if it faces a 'potent threat' or not, I think it is perfectly legitimate for a country to spend as much as it deems necessarly to protect itself - especially if it has the money to spend!!

I think some people just like to have an 'arab-bashing' at any given opportunity regardless of whatever the arabs do! Its ironic that people complain that Arabs have no regard for money as they waste it on gambling and on useless things and dont plan for the future. However, for once the money is being put to good use by taking some initial steps in trying to be self-sufficient and not relying on other countries to defend them in future...but people still complain!! Personally, i dont think it would be unfair to assume an element of jealousy in all this!!!

for one who said i was trying to be funny? and i do get your point but you need to realise that these arabs buying these weapons will further create tension in the region whatever their purpose is, in my opinion and opinion only they are just doing this so people outside their country say look wow these saudi have such a powerfull military.

One second you are suggesting that if people spend billions on weapons then it must be for war as it cant be for "christmas" as you put it...but now all of a sudden you are totally contradicting yourself and suggesting they are doing this to show off...

Before you start a debate with me, you need to make up your mind where you stand pal. Until then, it is pointless replying to you...

i was replying to your stupid comment when you said why do people think about war crap. my opinion from the start was its for show off.
so i suggets before you try and debate go learn to read first. bye bye:rofl:

Quite afew of you seem to have this fantasy with war.
Why does everything have to be about war and OCCUPYING?!! What makes you think these weapons are being acquired to only wage a war against another country? Have you considered the fact that these weapons could be being bought to actually stop going into a potential war - as it would be more unlikely for a country to wage a war against another country that already has substantial weapons to defend itself than one that doesnt!!!

I know some of you are throwing the arguement that a country should not have alot of weapons if it has no current threats - but why should a country wait for a potential threat!!! Saudis can be buying the arms to actually stop being in situations where they face potential threats!!

As we know from history, alot of the times a country has no weapons to defend itself as 'it does not need them' due to no current threats from anyone... but all of a sudden something changes and before you know it, it is occupied by another country and is unable to defend itself and do nothing about it!
So, the "Threat Perception" argument in this case is absolutely lame in my opinion...

yeah right lets all believe your nonsense that saudi is spending billion and billion on weapons only because they want to feel safe even though uncle sam will back them in a war against anyone and wile the usa is in the midd east no one will attack the saudis anyway.
you must be some sort of a moron to think that. i rather not even read what people like you write down because its just full of crap.

Actually they are the most advanced MBT in the world, I would prefer them over the Challenger from Britain and our own Abrams. German technology at its finest..
Abrams is better because all rounds in Abrams are stored behind blast doors, while in Leopard most of the rounds are unprotected. Also Abrams has superior armor, BMS and rounds.

in the name of my "EVIL" rich country that promised in may 1998 to supply u with 50,000 barrels per day of free oil . the very same country that hosts and gives jops for hundreds of thousands of pakistanies , we say thank u for bashing us .

Many thanks for those who we considered to be our brothers .

60 billion usd may seem alot of money for some ppl .However , for saudi arabia it is not . the kingdom spent much more (147 Billion usd ) on education and development in 21-12-2009 .

we have all right to spend a bit of money on arms to keep our resources safe whether u like it or not .

we will never attack anyone . We`ve said it many times and its against our policy . but, and i bear witness , we will cut off the hand that reaches out to attack our country .

u may say anything about saudies . we fought russians in afganistan and shishan . many brave wariors came from saudi . So yeh im proud to be one .

no one questioned khattab`s bravery in russia .

Long live the Servant of the Two Sacred Mosques
may allah bless pakistan and saudi arabia

Beter to have some modern arms to defend your country in an event of war than to be in a position like Lebanon or Iraq when a hositle nation treatens you or invades your country and you only have some ak's, rpg's and some old dated tanks to defend your country.

Next step for S.A. is to invest some money in their own military industry.

Not going to happen... They cant even fly their planes properly anymore... Once we sort out our mess in some place God willing... their leadership will have to be taken out by force, in my opinion...
