Sale of more than 200 tanks Leopard 2E to Saudi Arabia

Not going to happen... They cant even fly their planes properly anymore... Once we sort out our mess in some place God willing... their leadership will have to be taken out by force, in my opinion...

What happened to Saudi prince Bandar? Their are some rumours that he tried to take power in S.A. by using some elements in the army and has now been placed under house arrest.

In kingdom, Saudi prince's coup 'fails'

Well Maghribi... that just seems like an infighting that has happened before in the Saudi Kingdom... I dont think replacing one dog with another does anyone any good... The Saudi Monarchy is very entrenched in the Saudi society... We will have to see how things turn out there in face of a geopolitical change that we are hoping for... Although a lot of Saudis also are disgusted by their leaders too... A friend of mine actually heard the imaam of Kaba giving out to the Saudi leaders on one occasion...

Brothers there is a bigger aspect to these purchases that you have not seen yet perhaps...

These purchases are being done to help the western economies... Saudis have no need for these tanks... Its all being done to help the west... Be it this purchase or the 60 Billion dollars deal they have done with America recently...

You wont see them spending much to help the poor Muslims anywhere in the world... forget that... at least they could do something about the poor children who beg outside the Kaba...

The Saudi monarchy makes me sick

That why SA will open air corridor for Israeli planes to attack Iran....

SA and Egypt governments are puppet of US and Israeli so don't be ridiculous !!!

In case of an Israeli attack on Iran which may actually happen in a few months (or not hopefully)... The Iranians will give Saudi monarchs some bad taste in their mouths...

now saudi arabia might get into no.4 or 5 position in military power

For real. Lol. Damn they are arming up...About to be the strongest Muslim country I am sure of it.
What's the point? They have 0 war experience on their own and I doubt they can handle anyone half their size let alone anyone equal to them. These weapons are simply for show. In fact, if the US doesn't offer its security shield now, Iran could simply walk in, take all these advanced gizmos and go back and reverse-engineer them for their own use and Saudis won't be able to do anything about it.

It is just that they're super rich with oil, have a small population, have lot of land and lot of time to waste. So hey, why not add some glitz and glamour to our armoury showcase? :P

Such designations are simply for show bro. Without any combat experience, terrain skill or global ranking, this fancy ranking of "biggest spender" is only a joke.

US, Russia, China, India, Israel, Pakistan, Turkey etc are respected because they are battle-hardened, experienced in multiple forms of warfare and have proven repeatedly that they're not someone to irritate for too long.

Money can only get you equipment; not the tactics, experience and skill required to use them for victory.

Hey guys good to be back again

A lot of speculation about the massive investment in weapons from SA and any of it can be true, or not.

A small detail worth noting though is that a good part of these arms, i.e. the "super Apaches" are going to the SANG, which is controlled and led by Prins Abdullah. The SANG is a parallel army to the Saudi Arabian Army made up by clan members loyal to the royal family.
This can mean to things in my opinion.
1) a safeguard to the Saudi regime / Royal family in case the army, society or an external force moves against it.
2) an attempt by prins Abdullah to take over power in saudi arabia, which some analysts think he is attempting to do.

We will see what will happen ??

saudi arabia is an indolent , oil rich monarchy.

they have plenty of money , but are practically defenceless .

when saddam hussein rolled his tanks into kuwait in 1990, the saudis could do nothing even to protect themselves if he had decided to continue his invasion into saudi land.

some princes of the royal family ,who were pilots of the air force ,went on leave instead of getting ready for defending their land.

the technicians who maintain their armed forces high-tech equipment are american , and their pilots are trained by pakistan.

all this buy-up of costly foreign equipment does not change the fact that saudis have to depend on others to defend their land ........

their soldiers are not tough.

robert lacey has remarked in his book ( the kingdom ), that the lean and mean desert warriors who created the kingdom at the time of king abdul aziz have been replaced by flabby overweight people who like to flop into armchairs rather than do any fighting .

Bullshttt !!! Your dog king (he is a dog of US and Israel) wants attack Iran. Coz he afraids that he will lose his kingdom !! That why SA will open air corridor for Israeli planes to attack Iran....

I suggest you two stop using such language regarding the rulers of another country, it is all in extremely bad spirit and will cause ill will.

You can criticize any policy or act which you deem wrong, however generalizing the Saudis and painting a negative picture of Saudi Arabia as a whole is certainly not welcome.

Every nation has a right to spend its money as it deems fit.
Every region has its own set of problems and threats, so does the neighborhood in which Saudi Arabia is placed.

It is much better for the entire region and its populace (majority Muslim) that Saudi Arabia is strong to discourage a misadventure from its neighboring countries or from within, this shall save another repeat of Gulf War which certainly was not Saudi Arabia's folly...it was started by the Lion of Iraq called Saddam who was intoxicated by his power and his strong alliances and annexed a neighboring Muslim country by force.

So what eventually happened in Gulf War?
Misadventure by Iraq cost it dearly, had Kuwait been militarily strong...the standoff would not have led to such a conclusion as we see today.

I have no issues if Arab countries are militarily strong since they can afford to be, however i do hope and pray that in parallel they keep on spending enough money on industrial development and education to really empower their people for times eternal.

Best of luck to Saudi Arabia and its people.

There is a huge potential in KSA, they just need to speed up the investments in the education system and infrastructure, KSA is industrializing itself albeit in a slow pace. They also need to open up their society, and perhaps ease it a bit in their fundamentalist interpretation of the Quran and Sharia, and also stop the spending madness coming out of the royal family. Back to modesty and rationale KSA, the same principles of Prophet Muhamad (pbuh) ironically coming out of present day KSA.

It would be helpful if members can refrain from abusive and insulting remarks.

Keep the discussion in a civilized manner.
