Sajna planning to overthrow Fazlullah

LAHORE - Against the backdrop of infighting among the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ranks, some of its militant leaders are planning to kill Maulvi Fazlullah – the disputed chief of Pakistani Taliban who is hiding in Afghanistan, The Nation has learnt.

Tribesmen close to TTP commander Khan Said Mehsud alias Sajna talking to this correspondent from an undisclosed location in a tribal area informed on Friday that Sajna is making bids to unite all the anti-Fazalullah militants in TTP under his command, apparently to dethrone the disputed Fazlullah.

Sajna was tipped as the strongest contender for assuming Taliban leadership after Hakimullah Mehsud’s killing in a US drone strike, claiming himself as being the most suitable candidate to run the militant organisation comprising as many as 43 different militant outfits.

The sources said Sajna now emerging as a rival to the present TTP leader. They said he is exploiting the differences among the Mehsud tribe over the leadership issue, and he is even contacting with the militant groups outside the TTP to bring them under his command.
When asked whether assassinating disputed chief could be the only motive of Sajna, they said, “Apparently, his efforts are focused on eliminating the command of Maulvi Fazalullah, as he never accepted his leadership".

About the possibility of Sajna’s forming a new militant outfit, the tribesmen remarked, Khan Said alias Sajna has the potential to form a new amalgam of militant groups, however to establish his command he has either to get oath of allegiance from majority of TTP commanders or eliminate them, while Fazalullah will be his prime target.

Sajna, who is believed to be the strong supporter of peace with the government during the time of Hakimullah Mehsud, is fighting a fierce battle with Shehryar Mehsud in South Waziristan. Shehryar was close to Hakimullah, who believed that war was the only way to fulfil Pakistani Taliban’s agenda.

A member of an elite security service told this scribe that security services intercepted some communications of the warring TTP groups in South Waziristan, which suggest that Sajna was planning to undertake ‘something big’. He informed that several encrypted communications of TTP from first week of the April when deciphered strongly suggest that the infighting will increase further and new alignments and alliances would take place among the TTP and in this process, many key commanders are likely to be assassinated.

Wae sajna Lets we fight wae sajna ,
Sajna lets we dethrone King Fazlulah Joffrey wae sajna

By dethroning fazlullah, sajna would achieve nothing, he might have already lost the credibility within taliban ranks. So my guess is that he is trying to prove himself to pak army, with hope that he would be granted mehsud area with treaty similar to maulvi nazir. But it wont happen, army never leaves the area it occupies. And general raheel doesnt strike me as some one who would entertain such deals. When the common enemy, pak army comes with fire and blood, the infighting will stop.

Sajna's Primary Goal is to eject Non-Mehsud Talibunees out of South Waziristan.

A Non-Mehsud TTP leader has little chance of success as most of their rank and file comes from Mehsud Tribe.

This is about the dominance of Mehsuds over other Tribes.

Sajna, who is believed to be the strong supporter of peace with the government

If Sajna is a supporter of peace then why are the security services disclosing his plans.

Unless the plan is to wait until TTP is weak and then strike, this doesn't make any sense.

This is no secret since there is a raging War going on between Sajna ( Saeed Mehsud ) and Shahryar Mehsud (Mehsud proxy of Mulla Falullah ). Both sides are advertising and promoting heavily their cause to be able to recruit more. Sajna is himself talking to media to make known his plans to dislodge Fazlullah so that all the Anti-Fazlullah elements can come and unite under his banner.

Fazalullah sure hasn't had the ideal career start he wanted! :laughcry:

I hope the fat pig is beheaded. As for Sajna he clearly has the upper hand as the bulk of those killed have come from Fazalullah's proxy.

sajna ka pyar mai dil toota tou sajna nay AK 47 utha lii... cool down sajna

My guess is that it is more of divide and conquer case, than making peace with sajna. Sajna and shehryar, both mehsuds, would weaken mehsud taliban as a whole through infighting.....Mehsud fighters are power house of TTP, their weakening and disunity would provide the chance for pak army to strike heavy blow at them and finish them once and for all.

Fazlullah 'sacks' Sajna

Fazlullah sacks top commander to stop tribal infighting - Pakistan - DAWN.COM

PESHAWAR: The head of the Pakistani Taliban is making a last-ditch bid to stamp his authority on the increasingly divided insurgency by ordering a top commander sacked, Taliban sources said Saturday.

Taliban head Maulana Fazlullah moved against Khan “Sajna” Said on Friday after weeks of bloody infighting in the powerful Mehsud tribe that supplies the bulk of the Pakistani Taliban fighters, they said. Scores of men have been killed.

The risk for Fazlullah is that Said might ignore him and battle on. Said is trying to wrest control of the Mehsud tribe - with its many weapons and lucrative smuggling routes and extortion business - from rival Shehryar Mehsud.

The factional fighting has complicated attempts by the Pakistani government to end the insurgency through peace talks it proposed in February. Some commanders are in favour of talks but others vowed to continue their insurgency.

“It's a test case for Maulana Fazlullah and his shura,” a Taliban commander said, referring to the movement's leadership council.

“It will determine their future.”

“If Sajna is convinced and he stops fighting, it conveys a good message to rest of the Taliban factions,” he said.

“Otherwise it will be a setback for Fazlullah if Sajna refuses to obey his command.”

Fazlullah has repeatedly appealed in vain to the two Mehsud rivals to stop fighting.

An earlier peace deal brokered by the powerful Haqqani network of fighters fell through, undercutting the militants' ability to mount attacks against security forces.

Challenged Authority
Notorious for ordering the attempted killing of schoolgirl activist Malala Yousafzai, Fazlullah is the first non-Mehsud leader of the Pakistani Taliban and has struggled to impose his authority on the powerful tribe.

He faced many challengers to become chief of the Pakistani Taliban last year after the death of the previous head in a drone strike. He has been hiding in Afghanistan since then.

But the time has come to exert his authority, a senior member of the Taliban said.

“Senior members of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan had tired of appealing (to the two rivals) to stop their clashes,” he said.

The Taliban sources said Fazlullah turned to an influential hardline commander, Khalid Omar Khorasani, to appoint a new commander in place of Said, who wants to join the peace talks.

Khorasani, who opposes the talks, ordered the decapitation of 23 hostages from a government paramilitary force shortly after Islamabad announced its peace initiative.

Taliban commanders said Khorasani had been chosen to appoint a successor not just because of his hardline reputation, but because of his ability to unite various factions.

“All militant leaders respect him for his sacrifices in organising all the militant factions and that's why Fazlullah gave him this difficult task,” a Taliban commander said.
