The Indian Air Force is planning to fly ace shuttler and Olympic bronze medallist Saina Nehwal in its Kiran Mk II jet trainer at its officers’ training academy in Didndigul in Andhra Pradesh next week.

During her proposed visit next week, Nehwal will also play matches with the best of badminton players of the Air Force Academy there, IAF officials said here.

The plan is to take her on a sortie in the Kiran Mk II aircraft, which is being used by the Air Force to train its rookie pilots before they move to fly other fighter and transport aircraft, they said.

The visit is aimed at inspiring the young cadets at the academy to do hard work to achieve their goals in life in the service of the nation, they said.



Saina’s visit to the cradle of the IAF coincides with the sports week of the academy.

In recent years, the IAF has been honouring sportspersons for their achievements in their respective fields and has granted them honorary ranks also.

Champion batsman Sachin Tendulkar was made an honorary Group Captain by the IAF last year for his achievements and along with Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, was offered a sortie in frontline fighter aircraft SU-30MKI.

However, the offer made by the then IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal P V Naik has not been availed by the two cricketers so far.

Ace shuttler and Olympic bronze medallist Saina Nehwal will fly Kiran Mk II jettrainer aircraft of the Indian Air Force on Friday at the IAF’s training academy at Dundigal in Andhra Pradesh.

Saina has been invited to visit the Air Force Academy, Dundigal on September 28 as a special guest for the closing ceremony of the Inter Squadron Sports Championship.

During the visit, she is scheduled to fly a sortie on the Kiran trainer aircraft, the IAF said in a release.

“She is also scheduled to witness the closing ceremony of the sports championship, where she would be playing an exhibition badminton match and also interact with the cadets at the Academy,” the release said.

Kiran Mk II aircraft is being used by the Air Force to train its rookie pilots before they move to fly other fighter and transport aircraft.

If she joins AF like Sachin and Dhoni joined the Army she could be an inspiration to many...Many girls look upon her and she is an icon..a future superstar of the country.Many girls follow her.I dont think theres any fault in this.

An a/c is a machine meant to do its purpose...It not like a vimana from Ramayan man.When politicians can use the AF a/cs then stars like her too deserve it.

Moreover its a publicity thing for the AF.

I am sure many people would be jealous here but what can i say....pehle aukaad banao fir hath dikhao aur tum bhi beith jayo...jab aukaad nahi hein toh cheap shots le k bhi kuch nahi milega.

there is something called icon also madam.. thoda dimaag lagaiyye.. returns which IAF will get in terms of more meritorious/dedicated youths in their cadres vis-a-vis the cost incurred over a short 5 min trip on a trainer...

If IAF needs ads and icons to lure youth into slavery of the GOI then it says a lot about their dedication towards the fellow indians whom thse guys kill with impunity on the orders of ther masters.If you want to see real dedication then you can see those in maoist cadre.they are much dedicated then these slaves.
