Member of Parliament from Agra and Minister of State for Human Resource Development Ram Shankar Katheria has said, “There will be saffronisation of education and the country” and termed the process as beneficial for the country.

Mr. Katheria was speaking at the Lucknow University on Saturday at celebrations of Hindavi Swaraj Diwas Samaroh marking the 342nd coronation year of Maratha warrior-king Shivaji. Sharing the dias with the Minister was Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik who presided over the function.

The Agra MP said: “Some journalists ask if we are we are promoting saffronisation of education. I am saying, yes, there will be saffronisation of education and of the country. Jo acha hoga, woh hoga (Whatever is good for the country will certainly happen) be it saffronisation or sanghwaad (propagation of the RSS ideology).”

Curriculum change

Elaborating on the theme, Mr. Katheria said the need of the hour was to create a curriculum that would increase the nation’s samman (honour) and swabhimaan (self-respect) in the world. “We kept silent for such a long time and never accused anybody. But today the circumstances in the country are such.”

Amid applause from the audience, Mr Katheria rhetorically asked, “If we do not study the history of Maharana Pratap and Shivaji Maharaj then will we study the history of Genghis Khan?”

The minister’s remarks provoked criticism on social media and across political parties with Congress Rajya Sabha MP and Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes P.L. Punia calling the remarks “highly objectionable and anti-national.”

“Saffornisation does not represent the entire Indian society. You say ‘Indianisation,’ why saffronisation? Every policy must be centred around India as a whole and not part of it. The government of India is supposed to look into the interests of all sections of the society, not one section,” Mr. Punia told The Hindu.

Mr Katheria is not new to controversy. Earlier this year, at a condolence meeting for a murdered VHP worker in Agram, he delivered “hate-speech” against Muslims, which led to uproar in Parliament.

What is there to note in this speech? It is the usual brain-damaged rubbish that every Sanghi delivers.

I am saying there will be saffronisation in education and in the country. Whatever is good will definitely take place. Be it saffronisation or 'sanghwad', if it's good for the country then it will definitely take place," Katheria said.

Ministers like him tends to get carried away in such functions and speak what not as a ministers of the central cabinet. Its a kind of personal fantasy for them to dream these things happen. Relax, whenever he will be back in Delhi he will have to answers a thing or two to the PMO and the PM himself.(hopefully)

I protest this saffronization as it is partial and does not consider the feelings of the turmeric-ists, Garam-masalans, Dalchinians or the Dhanians.
Well aren't you in a spicy mood today Oscar bhaijaan.

As an Indian minority, I have no issues or problems with this. Its a high time we actually do something constructive about our pathetic education state when it comes to history. We never took complete control of it. In fact, we allowed ourselves to follow a BS curriculum written by foreigners and those with hidden agendas that spewed anything but the facts.

Every powerful country that has risen, took full control of its historical narrative. Not doing so for all this time, has allowed us to become weak, lack of unity, no pride, etc. China and Japan are the clearest examples of this. We can never chart our moves into the future without knowing our history.

Do you realize how few ppl in India and abroad know we were once a Unified country under Ashoka? Many continue to believe the British were the first to unite India as a single entity. What a pile of rubbish. This was a question and answer posted on Quora.com. It was amazing to see how many Indians born and raised in India had no clue and blamed it on the crap education. Do you realize Kerala was the first country in the world to beat a European Country completely in Asia (Dutch)? Beaten so bad, they never returned! How many of you know about Kanhoji Angre and Kunjali Marakkar, the Naval chief of Saamoothiri, were two notable naval chiefs of the period. It doesn't have to be Hindu specific. We can talk about the Christian militiamen in Kerala who took to arms against Tipu. Or Muslims who fought with HIndus or for Independence. The key here is to be objective. Nothing but the facts.

So if saffronisation means learning about Shivaji and Maharana Pratap, then by all means plz do. Its about damn time, we learn the truth of India. The truth will set us free. It may be a bitter pill for some to swallow, but the only way you can ensure the past does not repeat itself it by learning the Truth in the first place. Food for thought.
