Sadiq Khan 'set to win London mayoral race'

It's great day. To see a man from humble background - son a of poor Pakistani migrant bus driver to end up as Mayor of one of the greatest cities of the world. Say's a lot of the opportunity Britain offers to those who work hard. As a British Pakistani I take pride in seeing Sadiq Khan win even if Imran Khan had backed Zack Goldsmith.

The strange thing was both candidates had Pakistani connection. Zack Goldsmith of course is the son of James Goldsmith and brother of Jemima Khan the ex wife of Imran Khan. I had (yes I am Kaptaan/Atanz - messed up my password and can't get into my account. Until that is sorted out I am the "Devil" here) opened a thread on British Pakistani's where I had listed Sadiq Khan at top. All we need now is Sajid Javid to become the next Prime Minister of UK. That would be great guns.

Fine but when you wearing the tightest tshirt going it looks a bit camp lol :cheesy: they need better fashion sense, and most have the short and sweet military haircut too but I see some trendy rock types as well

Dude,as a story,I don't know about others altough, talking with some friends ,It turned out that they had the same speech.

I was 8 ,entering my 2nd year of school. My brother was entering 1st year.My father called me to a tete a tete speech -at that time I thought he cared about my grades in school-....He didn't give a ****!....He just warned me that my brother was entering school and that I must watch over him and under any circumstance I won't be allowed to let him get beaten by...1.boys under his age.2.boys his age.3.boys over 3 years his age (2 years my age)-if he would ever hear about us taking a beating,he would beat us himself..........lesson to learn ?....don't get beaten...

So,you see, growing up like that,I'm willing to think that many Romanians,Poles,Russians, grew like that,it's easy to land in trouble in some UK club.....so,cut them some slack.

It's different for us....we're about survival, respect another culture....

That's my London! :enjoy:

I'm more glad that that we have kept another Conservative mayor out, and also that someone of his background has beaten a millionaire tax evader like Zac.

And as regards the Poles and hard work. This always happens with first generation migrants. They tend to be young. Full of energy. Hungry and the prospect of earning British pounds is like afterburner. As time goes on though the migrant community slowly start paddling like the mainstream. Any doubts on that front speak with Pakistani migrants from 1960s. 12 hour shifts. Grab any overtime on weekends. Live for work. come home to sleep in house shared with dozen other workers. no burden on school system, hospitals or other public services.

Agreed flamer. However I have lived long enough to see everything as a product of process. I and Sadiq Khan share one thing. We both are the sons of migrants from Pakistan although he has done far better than I.

As regards loyalty did you know that vast majority of British Pakistani's are grandchildren of soldiers who served the British Empire? They served in both WWs. They served in almost every theatre from the Western front to North Africa. At least five of my predecessors fought in WW2 wearing British uniforms. In fact the ethnic groups that now make Pakistan (Pashtun/Punjabi) contributed some of the largest volunteers to the war effort and in doing so won Victoria Cross on many occasions. The first Asian to win Victoria Cross was from what is now Pakistan.

Khudadad Khan VC
On 31 October 1914, in Belguim 26-year-old Khan performed an act of bravery for which he was awarded the Victoria Cross during the

And in WW2 against Germans

The KING has been graciously pleased to approve the award of the VICTORIA CROSS to: — No. 26534 Sepoy ALl HAIDAR, 13th Frontier Force Rifles, British Indian Army. ( now part of Pakistan Army)

In Italy, during the crossing of the River Senio, near Fusignano, in daylight on 9 April 1945, a Company of the I3th Frontier Force Rifles were ordered to assault the enemy positions strongly dug in on the far bank. These positions had been prepared and improved over many months and were mainly on the steep flood banks, some 25 feet high.

Sepoy Ali Haidar was a member of the lefthand Section of the left-hand Platoon. As soon as the Platoon started to cross, it came under heavy and accurate machine gun fire from two enemy posts strongly dug in about 60 yards away. Sepoy Ali Haidar's Section suffered casualties and only 3 men, including himself, managed to get across. The remainder of the Company was temporarily held up. Without orders, and on his own initiative, Sepoy Ali Haidar, leaving the other two to cover him, charged the nearest post which was about 30 yards away. He threw a grenade and almost at the same time the enemy threw one at him, wounding him severely in the back. In spite of this he kept on and the enemy post was destroyed and four of the enemy surrendered. With utter disregard of his own wounds he continued and charged the next post in which the enemy had one Spandau and three automatics, which were still very active and preventing movement on 'both banks. He was "again wounded, this time in the right leg and right arm. Although weakened by loss of blood, with great determination Sepoy Ali Haidar crawled closer and in a final effort raised himself from the ground, threw a grenade, and charged into the second enemy post. Two enemy were wounded and the remaining two surrendered.

The Pakistani village that gave its sons to fight for Britain
Down a broken road winding through a corner of Pakistan's Punjab province lies a silent graveyard, the resting place of hundreds of soldiers who fought for Britain in two world wars.

Nestled in the rocky hills of Punjab's salt ranges, blasted by heat in the summer, the village of Dulmial is a far cry from the freezing mud of the Flanders trenches.

But the village, around 150 kilometres (90 miles) from Islamabad, gave 460 men to fight in the 1914-18 conflict -- more than any other single village in what was then

The problem has been that the way geopolitics has played out since demise of the Soviet Union and in particular 9/11 rupture has created forces that have caused deep fissures in the community and like earthquake tremors has done significant damage. Poland and Eastern Europe have been immune from this but don't forget political instability is not the preserve of any region. 1940s is proof of that. The entire world was sucked into meat grinding machine because of certain political events in Central Europe.

This is something people ought to bear in mind before they judge others. It is grear fallacy to judge everything within the horizon of your own limited lifespan. Yes, there maybe problems looked through the window today but that overlooks a century and half of often difficult but shared history with Britain. However thatis nothing unique. Only few years ago the Irish were at war with the British state. Every weekend we used to get IRA bomb go off in UK or British soldiers murdered like this example below. Video is available on Youtube. I can't post the links. Between 1969 to 1999 thousands were murdered in UK in Irish Catholic vesus Protestant Ulster troubles.

lol....UK firms are recruiting like crazy doctors, nurses, topo technicians,etc....you're naive to think that only low paid labour gets in...not saying that it doesn't happen.
others are not exactly 'flooding' the market, pushing labour price down...
The main concern is they cant possibly do a controlled migration like they do for non-EU immigrants. UK needs migrants, even UKIP agrees. All they want is control over who they want in. They cant do with EU migrants.

You right because my Serbian friend was taught from early age how to fight by his father, I guess the mentality is different. You think it is because you grew up in tougher conditions and that was instilled in you by uncles, parents etc?

I think everyone can learn from one another you people have many good traits that we can use also and vice versa. See our problem is we had immense academic pressure from early age,we were taught we must be medical professionals or accountants. We also got beats but it was when we did not do well in school or got the marks our parents wanted lol

Irish love that word. By any chance you done some downtime with "Paddies"? And as regards Sajid Javid like great politico's let's hope he has cat's nine lives.

Yes I drink at a Irish pub, plus cricklewood/kilburn used to be and still is to some extent a Irish area
