China gains nothing in the FTA with Korea, but it's in the expenses of Japan. Simple, painful, but true. And let me remind that this is Korea takes advantage of Japan China row. Harsh fact but may send Korea into the developed nations club and could overtake Japan in average income. When that comes, LDP will be as soon as out of any political chance of leading Japanese nation.

Let's look at the trade between Korea and Japan; its a dismal comparison. Japan imports only some 35 billion USD worth of goods from Korea, whereas the Koreans import some 60 billion USD worth from Japan. Let's be honest, what does Korea really offer for us? High technology? Shipping? Everything they have , we have, everything they have , they've practically "copied" from us. That is what their brand / products are --- a cheaper "more affordable" version of Japanese products.

In the past it has always been this: You like Sony ? Why pay for Sony goods, get Samsung!

Hyundai , Kia, Daewoo tried to compete with our own: Toyota / Lexus, Honda / Acura, Nissan / Infiniti, Isuzu, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Subaru, Ishikawajima Harima, Kawasaki, Scion. Yet they don't come close in terms of quality and global demand share.

For us, in my personal opinion, trade with Korea is negligible. For us, it is trade with China that is important. China is a greater market, and viable partner. Korea does not even come in the blink of our radar. Period.

We've poured billions into their country, practically gave them blue prints to our industries in spirit of repairing relations , heck, the Emperor even went to visit Korea sometime ago, but have you seen their recent provocations? For me, Korean politics is just too irritating. They will always been the aggravationist; they remind me of Imran Khan to Pakistan's PM Nawaz Sharif. Imran Khan talks much, but he is not leadership potential. Korea is the same for us, and the only reason why Tokyo is giving consideration to this issue of Korea is due to the threat of Pyongyang.

Philippines as bottom of the barrel? They're the fastest growing economy in the entire ASEAN, 2nd fastest growing economy in Asia-Pacific, second only to China. I think your judgment of their fiscal capability is too harsh. They may be militarily weak, but economically speaking, they've over-performed their regional peers.

Samsung is already feeling the hot breath from Xiaomi, so in the smartphone arena Chinese brands will surely overtake the Koreans. Just take a look at the Mainland market share and see for yourself, we have plenty Chinese brands offering bang for buck quality phones able to compete with Apple and Samsung midrange to top models.

While SK has overtaken Japanese electronics, they are struggling with their automobile industry against the well established Japanese car brands. As for China, it cannot compete in the gasoline cars arena but we have companies who are at the front in electronic cars industry. Also from the photos posted by our Chinese members here i'm quite impressed with the SUV models.

In some fields China may be behind SK/JP/US, but we are catching up quite fast so give it some time we shall see
Last but not least TW is pretty much a joke, anti China locals will only speedup the demise of the island.

I will say that they are a nationalistic bunch, but you will have to filter through them , you'll see that there's a great number of them who are quite open to foreigners. As for the emotionality, that is given and I think it is a trait of Korean people in general (this is not to be seen as a completely bad thing); emotional in a way that they're sensitive.

I don't think China wants to replace the US as some dominant world leader dictating everybody's policies. It wishes to develop and create a multi polar world order, the Russians seem to prefer this idea as well much like the rest of the BRICS members.

They are quite selfish in school. In class they don't contribute a thing but after class they form a small group and share all materials and even most are copied from other classmates. Their sydicate always win in these unfair and dirty games.

Yet Japanse and Chinese has no such bad traditions.
