Rusting anchor: The creation & mutation of a national ideology

there is most that is not good, that is what must be removed... that is my wish for any place in the world... anyone who has trouble with my ideals should really go to some other world because what i seek is true democracy and progress which should apply to every human.

just because the britishers and americans created india in a certain form doesn't mean it should continue to exist in the same form continuing the age-old oppressions and injustices and insanities.

why should this have happened in 2015... ( Death, hunger stalk Indian tea-estate workers )... this is not 800 bc.

The British did not create India. Indians created India. And it will stay in this form. You have a problem, try to change it within the rules. Or immigrate to your imaginary lala land.

@Norwegian @Imran Rashid @Horus

The photos are chilling bros. Especially the aunties smoking and the medical students with the 70s hairstyles and belbots.

And then the public flogging.

Its like Pakistan and Iran were reading out of a common manual.
actually smoking is not Haraam, and the other photos of the girls are also not wrong(talking about the medical students) as they are covered according to the dress code of Islam

Something tells me neither set of individuals of the time really gave two figs about your haram thing man.

One of the aunties has a nice sleeveless frock on as well.

The Indian influence still seems strong.

I don't hate him.

It would be nice to have more patriotic Indian Muslims though. Openly. Here on PDF. But the BUT paradigm runs strong in most of them.

no one should smoke, male or female... i find smoking pointless and anti-health.

below are some algerian ladies from decades past... in center is jamila bouhired, algerian revolutionary... seems indian influence ran strong in algeria too. :D

i don't seek to build a cult of any human... i promote something after careful thought... what is your objection to the "third universal theory ( jamahiriya )" concept??

But the BUT paradigm runs strong in most of them.

Where is this coming from lalay?

Indian influence started with Bollywood, before that we had pretty much of our own influence. You already know conservative look of today's India. Your people are policing to stop youth from celebrating valentines day.

a very good narrative of where Pakistan started, where it is headed to and why.
The pictures speak more than a 1000 words. Although I do not see "ads showing females smoking" a sign of progress, I do see public flogging as a sign of regression.

The best part of the whole narrative:
"Many Pakistani intellectuals, historians and scholars have continued to oppose these views, explaining them as being doctrinal tools of the ruling elite and its religious allies with which they keeps society on a tight leash, and worrying more about abstract religious intricacies rather than about more realistic economic and political issues and aspirations."

Please read that again and again - its one of the best 5 lines to describe a society engulfed by grass root under development but the people are still talking about which strand of islam to follow instead of what to do to get out of perennial poverty.

This was also similar to the dark ages where the church held supremacy and decided what was "right" or "wrong" according to their interpretations. If they wanted some money, they declared anyone who doesnt give money to them as "blasphemers" (this is "just saying" how they wielded their power). They were judge, jury and the trial.

the debate about "should pakistan be islamic or democratic" or if islamic then which strand should be put to rest for a span of 20 years - and work only for uplifting of the general public. after 20 years, these questions would seem irrelevant!

I sincerely hope these "dark ages" are replaced by Pakistan's own renaissance with more younger people taking up science more than religion in their public life - religion can be in your private life as much as you want. Atleast thats how europe got out of the Dark Ages. But that may not be the only solution.

Silly question. Everything is Indian, even if it's not.

Guys, sorry I was not sufficiently lucid to get my point across. Of course frock is Indian. It has been on our land now for close to 400 years. Just as the Shalwar Kameez is also Indian. Been on our land for a few centuries more.

The point is India assimilates, and absorbs, and tolerates, and allows. You have tons of Indian women (Christians, Jews, Parsis, Anglos, and middle to upper middle class women from all denominations) still wearing dresses and frocks.

I know a very close friend (who happens to be a girl) in Pakistan, and I know exactly what the situation is in Pakistan today, even wearing perfectly covered up clothing. I am not talking about smaller cities here. I am talking about one of you top 3 metropolises.

That against the backdrop of this clearly "Indian" socialite aunty photo is where I was coming from. Hope that explains.

Lahori LOL :)
