I've created this thread to look at ways that a Russo-Turkish conflict may develop.

Turkey has a formidable army ,and if it decides to use this army to create safe havens in Syria for the Syrian population which are free of PKK influence it's difficult in my view to see how Russia could respond.

Russia does of course have nuclear weapons but it's impossible to imagine a scenario where Russia would respond to a Turkish conventional military force in Syria with a nuclear strike.

In addition due to the distance there would be a substantially higher economic cost to Russia of waging such a war. A cost which could become even greater if Turkey prepared for the conflict by supporting Georgian, Adzerbaijani, and Ukrainian forces in drawing some of the attention of the Russian military.

Is it likely that Iran would intervene? Yes, but Iran has already intervened and any Iranian intervention would draw in the airforces of several other states in the region.

Your views are appreciated.

Russia will bomb the crap out of Turkey via the Caspian Sea and Black Sea

we are already witnessed what this flotilla can do.

Turkey will keep trying to drag in the Arabs and West. Till west keeps away, I don't see Turkey sending in its armed forces.

Russians mean while will successfully liberate Aleppo.

Please provide a source other than RT. I don't mean PressTV--I know some of the people at PressTV and their incestuous relationship with RT.

Don't think Turkey stands much a chance against Russian Strategic Missiles. Maybe they may hold their ground in ground warfare if it ever came to it. But they will be bombed to dust if Turkey ever tries something

Russian military fires cruise missiles into Syria - The Washington Post

Operational history[edit]
  • On 7 October 2015, the Gepard class frigate and three Buyan-M class Russian Navy corvettes, part of the Caspian Flotilla launched 26 Kalibr-NK system cruise missiles 3M14T from the Caspian Sea at 11 targets in Syria during the Syrian Civil War. The missiles traveled 1,500 km (932 mi) through Iranian and Iraqi airspace and struck targets inRaqqa and Aleppo provinces (controlled by the Islamic State), but primarily Idlib province (controlled by the Free Syrian Army and Nusra Front).[4][5][6] Anonymous US DoD officials reported that four missiles crashed in Iran.[7] Russian and Iranian governments denied this claim [8] while Pentagon and State Department officials refused to comment on the reports.[9] Russia posted video footage of 26 Kalibr missile launches as well as several videos of missile impacts without time or location information.[10] Please note: Actual number of missiles should be confirmed from other than Russian resources, since the official Russian video shows same launch of 8 missiles, filmed by different cameras on the same ship. [11]
  • On the 20th of November 2015 Russia launched 18 3M14T cruise missiles from Caspian Sea onto targets in Syria, the targets were in Raqqa, Idlib and Aleppo.[12]
  • On the 9th of December 2015 Russia fired a group of 3M14K cruise missiles from Kalibr-PL system at IS positions from the Improved Kilo-class submarine B-237 Rostov-on-Don deployed in the Mediterranean.[13]

I dont think there will be a direct war between turkey & russia. But proxies will play a important role. Turkey is simply going down the rabbit hole of war. Sooner or later the same chaos will spread to turkey itself.

Bombed to dust. Do you think Turkey would surrender after a few missiles from Putin? What do you think it would take for Turkey to surrender?

In which case Turkey gains nothing by sitting back and waiting. Please reply with a realistic end game scenario, not fantasies of your ideal scenario.

Which part of my previous comment did you NOT understand?? There have been MANY countries which have suffered massive aerial attacks, in some cases tiny countries have had more bombs dropped on them than were used during the entire course of WW2.

Now it may be, I'm wrong, and assuming that the Indian response to a few bombs is to quickly surrender. So just to make it clear, I'm not asking you to tell me what you think India would do, I want you to tell me whether you think Turkey would surrender, and the consequences for Russia of such a war.

.
Here two things are important to decide and discuss.
1. Is China standing with Russia to establish Asad?
2. Are the European partners of NATO like Paris and Berlin ready to risk a war with Russia for Turkeys misadventures?
These two things will make a lot of things clear.

Calm down and relax, drink some water. Turkey would and could do absolutely nothing rather than stare at their country being bombed from a distance. Only US has the capability to counter Russian Strategic Missiles, no other country has. Not even your beloved Turkey..

Ok. Let's say the war is purely Turkey and some Arab countries on one side and Russia and Iran on the other. I can't see Iran rushing armored ground forces into this war because they would be mincemeat for all those Arab airforces.

Are you saying China would send ground and airforces to fight Turkey and the Arab states?

Let's forget about other NATO states joining in.

I've put 'Star Wars' on ignore because he has zero useful contribution apart from repeating like a parrot on crack how Turkey would surrender.

The Chinese support to Russia effort will only be economic, and I mean only that. If the Russia has Chinese backing,Russia will be ready to take up more risks to establish Asad .

I do not leave NATO as I feel without a backing, at least informal , Turkey and Arab states will not create another conflict, they will only engage in proxy wars.

As for Iran, I don't think they will do that.... they will only provide more weapons , intelligence and training to a large force of Shia , Pro Asad and Alawhite forces fighting or ready to fight in Syria.
