Elon Musk Lauds Brilliant Russian Rocket Engine RD-180 in Core of US' Atlas V
The reliable and relatively cheap RD-180 engine is designed by a Russian research and development company especially for the US Atlas carrier rockets, but there are reportedly plans to put them to use in the production of Russian super-heavy rockets.

The head of SpaceX Elon Musk has praised the RD-180’s engine, designed and manufactured by Russia’s NPO Energomash and used on the American booster Atlas V, noting though that the need to exploit it is “embarrassing:”
The Russian-designed liquid-fuel rocket engine RD-180 powers the first stage of the American rocket carrier Atlas V. As many as 85 flights of rockets powered by the engine have been conducted to date...

MOSCOW, July 23. /TASS/. Russia’s Skybot F-850 android robot has arrived at the Baikonur spaceport for its travel to the International Space Station (ISS) in August, Head of the State Space Corporation Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin tweeted on Tuesday.

"Half an hour ago, the Skybot F-850 avatar robot arrived at Baikonur," the Roscosmos chief wrote on his Tweeter.
The android robot will join the Russian crew of the International Space Station on August 22 to continue the tests of "the space-designated anthropomorphous system," Rogozin specified.

The Skybot F-850 android robot (previously called Fedor) has been developed by Android Technology Company and the Advanced Research Fund on a technical assignment from Russia’s Emergencies Ministry. The ‘Rescuer’ robot demonstration prototype was made in 2016. Initially, the robot was dubbed the Avatar but later got its own name FEDOR (Final Experimental Demonstration Object Research). In 2018, the FEDOR’s exhibition model for the All-Russian Exhibition Center (VDNKh) in Moscow was created.

The robot is expected to stay a week and a half in orbit, after which it will return to Earth. In the future, the Skybot F-850 will travel to the Moon. Such flights will be performed before manned missions to the Earth’s natural satellite.

Today is Yuri Gagarin's birthday. The first man to orbit space in a space vessel. He died in a plane crash at age 34 and there's a huge titanium statue of him in Moscow. Russian pilot and space cosmonaut and hero of the Soviet Union no doubt. And the vessel's name? The Vostok 1!

Today is the birthday of Yuri Gagarin (9 Mar 1934 – 27 Mar 1968) who was a Russian pilot and cosmonaut who became the first human to journey into outer space, achieving a major milestone in the Space Race; his capsule, Vostok 1, completed one orbit of Earth on 12 April 1961.
