Special Forces Crimson Beret | Short Doc

That's pretty good. That's some grueling stuff, but unless they didn't show more, that's not really a full trial to become something like a Spetnaz, is it? For example, Rangers and we'll keep the Navy Seals out of this since their quals involve a lot of underwater stuff, but Rangers and other types have to go through a lot more than what was on that video. If that was just for the red beret, then that's cool.

Russia has reportedly recruited hundreds of Yemeni mercenaries to fight in Ukraine, according to multiple sources, including the Financial Times. This recruitment effort highlights Moscow's reliance on foreign fighters to offset significant battlefield losses while avoiding full-scale mobilization.

Key Details:
  • Recruitment Process: Yemeni recruits were lured with promises of high-paying jobs and Russian citizenship, facilitated by a company linked to Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels. Upon arrival in Russia, many were reportedly forcibly conscripted into the Russian army and sent to the front lines in Ukraine
  • Scale of Recruitment: The operation involved hundreds of Yemeni men, with reports suggesting that recruitment began around July 2024. Contracts reviewed by journalists indicate that the recruits were misled about their roles, with some believing they would work in security or engineering
  • Conditions for Recruits: Many Yemeni fighters found themselves ill-equipped for combat, lacking winter clothing and proper training. Some reportedly faced dire conditions, with accounts of high casualties among the first groups sent to Ukraine
  • Geopolitical Implications: This recruitment underscores deepening ties between Russia and Iran-backed groups like the Houthis. Analysts suggest that Russia is leveraging its relationships with anti-Western factions in the Middle East to bolster its war efforts while destabilizing Western interests
  • Broader Recruitment Strategy: In addition to Yemeni mercenaries, Russia has enlisted fighters from other countries, including Nepal, India, Syria, and even North Korea. Reports indicate that over 12,000 North Korean troops are currently stationed in Russia's Kursk region
Strategic Context:
This development reflects Russia's increasing reliance on unconventional methods to sustain its military campaign in Ukraine. By recruiting foreign fighters, Moscow aims to mitigate domestic resistance to mobilization while maintaining pressure on Ukrainian forces. The involvement of Yemeni mercenaries also signals an expansion of Russia's influence in conflict zones beyond Europe, raising concerns about broader regional instability.
