Interesting news. IF true, it is still going to be VERY hard for Russia to help Iran.

-Firstly, with US combat ships already in the Persian Gulf, how would Russia come to Iran's assistance? It has no direct land access to Iran. It won't be flying in since by then US Air force would have taken control of the Iranian skies.
-Secondly, Russia may try using the Caspian Sea route but it is again going to be difficult cause of the US allies around the Southern Caspian Sea. It won't be easy but possible.

Finally, if a war starts on Iran, there are ONLY TWO Countries that will make it very, very difficult for the US in Iran. these countries are Turkey and Pakistan. It is 100% certain that these two Allied countries will join hands and oppose the US. They will send in hundreds and thousands of proxies, specially Pakistan.

This is going to turn into one hell of a quick sand for a lot of countries specifically the US.

1. Turkey will not support Iran.

2. Pakistan need to maintain distance from this conflict. We already experienced lot of friction with US in Afghanistan. Antagonizing US in Iran as well, will be like digging our own grave. Pakistan economic situation is fragile and we cannot risk imposition of tough sanctions and other measures upon us. Sorry.

Fence the entire border and stop accomodating refugees. Iran is a geographically big regardless.

Time is not on their side because time makes Iran stronger while Time makes the "work" US+ West has to more. Look at it. Iran in 1990 for ex militarily is very weak and different from Iran today. Iran's popiulation is larger, the country's science knowledge has gone through the roof....because you foolish az EU and AMericans kept thinking "alternative" ops against Iran would get the "job done". BS. Iran seems soon to be the one calling the shots in the ME, and thats why US all of a sudden wants to shut down "malign" Iranian influence in the ME. Also, Trump only has 5 more years...but you and me know a potential US- Iran will either end 1) after a short while, and that will involve Iran exiting the violence in relatively ok/decent shape(because thinktank analysis already showed US need alot of warpower to even degrade Iranian capabilities to a point Iran wont be a worrisome military threat) OR 2)go on for at least 5-10 years.

Imo, Trump is militarily dumb. He has made threats, and then backed down...NK or/and Iran or/and CHina or/and Russia can see this as weakness and make decisions based on that. US still keeping that aircraft carrier out of Iranian naval attack range. Things have changed, and you're late. And you Europeans are weak as fuk. I know that already. Only 2 or 3 of you have any serious military endurance. You guys are as(or more) afraid of Israelis and Americans when it comes to being afraid to lose men. You value life almost too much, so some of your enemies know you're lacking in the "courage currency" for war. Iran can take on any of you one on one and you will take alot of damage. Why do you think Iran snatched those 19 British sailors out of Iraqi waters years ago? Iran showed itwas not afraid of UK. So i know how weak you guys are without US.

also : Trump has already indicated he's not looking for regime change, he's looking for attitude change.

i think Trump is currently setting up Iran to be handled by multiple Presidents, not just Trump himself.
