With these missiles the Ukrainian planes would never have to fly in hostile airspace. They have the range to launch the cruise missiles behind the lines where they're not in danger of Russian defenses.

The missiles have their own internal guidance and are programmed for their target independently of the host platform - they just need a plane powerful enough to lift them into the air and release when required. In this case it will be Su-27s and Sukhoi Su-24's that will launch these missiles. The Mig29s are too small.

They are hard to detect low flying to avoid air defence systems and difficult to jam as the have mapping systems and gps. They were used against Russians best anti aircraft systems in Libya and Syria and had no issues destroying all of their targets.
