This much like a 60s - 70s style mindset that natural resources drive the future. The natural resources it has were in a decline state before the war, and the green energy transition has accelerated it because of war....I agreed...
From the beginning, Ukraine was not in a position to fight a war against Russia. Zelensky made big blunders by not going the political way.
Who will be a loser?
Russia -? No, they have natural resources, and once it is over, only the EU and the West will be in line to buy from Russia.
Ukraine, It ends with what? destruction of the country and the loss of a big part of Russia?
A lot of people have lost their lives, and both sides are equally responsible, including the US, NATO and the WEST.
Its like a country rich in whale oil in the middle 1800s has plenty of it (it was used to light lamps), but the rest of the world has started using electricity and made whale oil irrelevant.
Same applies on the industrial side: you can't be an industrial economy without having an independent path to semi conductors. China has partially established it.
EU countries have been devoid of natural resources (other than Norway for oil) and are advancing because of other capabilities.
And finally, yes certainly NATO can be blamed. But this narrative assumes that Ukrainians are dumb and stupid and should give up to their occupier. May be this is the approach your society has used, but some populations don't believe in this. The Afghans didn't believe this in the 1800s under British, in the 80s against Russia, and in the 2000s against ISAF.
Nobody controls a population to go die to defend for what they believe in: not NATO, not EU, and not Russia. So give the Ukrainians some credit for doing what THEY feel is right for them (you don't have to agree with them). I think Ukraines' resilience has actually surprised NATO as they didn't give HIMARS 4 months to the invasion when they realized what the defenders accomplished with defensive weapons and pushed back the RUssians
