Russia to partner in AMCA Technologies

Or at least custom varients of foreign engines, which is why I prefered the way Sweden had gone for the Gripen with the RM12. We still focus far too much on the idea, that every nut an bolt need to be India, while that simply is not possible with our current level of technical and industrial capability. That's why a indigenized foreign engine that fulfills all the performance requirements we need, with a high ammount of indigenous parts, is better than an indigenous engine, that is below the needs.

I still hope that we go for a indigenized Type 30 engine for FGFA, just as we should keep trying to make Kaveri capable enough to be fitted to the Mig 29Ks, since an indigenized Mig 29K with Kaveri engine, is far more worth than for the industry and the navy, than a limited platform like N-LCA with a US engine.

Sweden got that kind of a deal because it is a US ally from the 'coalition of the willing'.

We won't even get the remotest help on that from GE or P&W.

Also, Gripen cannot be exported to every country that Sweden wants. It has to take US permission.

That is a matter of negotiations, but since we know about the restrictions of the US on tech share and support, it is pretty nuts to my understanding, why DRDO once again makes a fighter development dependent on US parts and support. As if they didn't learned anything from the problems during LCA development. Not to mention that we have plenty of options that would allow such customizations, with the Russians and Europeans happy to share and jointly develop techs.

Well neither can we export any LCA or AMCA without US approval if the engine is US based, nor can we do it without Israeli approval, because of all the Israeli parts. But who cares about exports, when these fighters are primarily build for our forces and they need reliable spare supply and the more parts of a foreign fighter or a foreign engine can be indigenized the better for them!
Take the MKIs now, which have problems with unreliable Russian MFD's. The fact that HAL build MKIs uses Samtel MFDs makes them less dependent on Russia anymore and with the overhaul / upgrade the indigenization factor of the MKI will increase several times. FGFA brings that to an even higher level, since we are able to implement Indian parts from the start, but it shows that indigenization is more important now, than trying to develop something fully indigenous from scratch, if we simply are not up to the task yet.
DRDO made the mistake in LCA to make a far too large jump, by completely overestimating their capabilities, while they had to do more indigenization of foreign parts first, to get the know how and experience and our aviation industry suffered because of that for nearly a decade.
