Putin's making more sense than Carter and Obama combined. He seems flexible on almost every issue concerning Syria. Putin sounds like someone who genuinely wants to restore peace and stability in Syria.
Middle East would prove to be a comparatively peaceful region under Russian influence.

There's no better political solution than ceasefire followed by Free and Fair Presidential Elections where everyone INCLUDING Assad could contest.

The U.S alliance seems baffled. Doubt Assad's going anywhere any sooner. :P
Nothing seems to be working for U.S, be it Sit back and watch approach, Train and Arm approach and now this limited 'Special Forces'. Wonder how long's U.S. gonna play special forces.

Assad is a puppet of Russia and Iran. He is not important. What Russia and Iran want is a puppet in Damascus.

The "reform" process must include democratic elections, protection for religious and ethnic minorities. The Nusyari Alawai minority has ruled Syria for long enough and now its time for the majority Sunni Arab rule. The vast majority of Syrians like the Pakistanis and Turks are Sunni Hanafi Muslims.

That is up to Indo Europeans to decide. Syria is a small country. Syria can only be a puppet. Syria cannot be an independent country.

Indo Europeans ? Pakistan can also send peacekeeping troops as we have remained neutral and Saudis, Turks and Iranians would welcome our troops in Syria.

You just might be underestimating Assad's importance. I mean, if Assad were that unimportant, Russia and Iran, could oust Assad and bring in another puppet - Providing the much needed face-saving to U.S. alliance and paving the way for political process.

Assad is pretty bad as a leader. Suheil Hassan would make a much finer president, puppet of Russia and Iran no less.

Suheil Al Hassan is another Nusayri Alawi like Assad and he also unacceptable !!

Doubt he's any uglier than Bush.

Being a puppet alone doesn't help, especially when one's less vulnerable to conspiracies. I haven't read on Hassan but from what I know about Assad - He's perhaps Russia and Iran's best man in Damascus. Before I explain the reason behind that I'd like to define 'finer President' - Most acceptable President for Russia and Iran would be the one who puts Russian and Iranian interests before U.S', Saudis, Turkey's and even Syria's. Now the reason being for Assad being the best man is,
Assad isn't very popular among Syrians especially now more than ever. And in Iran and Russia terms, the less popular the better. Reason being, once you've public support, you put your country's interests above anyone else's including the ones who've installed ya. So, the first reason being Assad isn't very popular among Syrians - The second reason being, he has lots of blood on his hands, that could easily be translated into not only losing power but also death. There's plenty other reasons but these alone are enough to keep Assad in check.

What surprises me, however, is the use of the word 'Election' in the Russian proposal. I mean, it's not like Assad's gonna be elected in a fair election. And if Russian and Iran are willing to lose Assad then I don't what's all the fuss about since U.S. isn't demanding anything different.

. . .
And this is why ur retarded existence should never be taken seriously.

People never vote no names. People always vote candidates they know. They is why incumbents always get re elected.

Just about everyone hate Assad, but they will always vote Assad. This is basic psychology.

The proposal isn't bad... It makes sense but the elections have to be genuine and true otherwise it kills the purpose bcz widely rigged elections with Assad winning will be a mess and unacceptable. Not too mention not involving america in the process will lead to american coalition supporting the rebels again. So under the eyes of america and Russia the new elections must be held and whoever gets elected would stay in power for his term. If the Sunnis in Syria feel that a sunni leader will better represent them then they should vote for one otherwise one can't dispute a fair election by saying a minority was elected as long as the election was fair... Involving america will kill any fingers being pointed in the election.

Then comes problem number 2 that no election can be conducted with the way things are. The rebels and govt agree to a ceasefire and both open their territories to Russian and american forces who in unity will conduct the elections. The millions of refugees also have the right to vote and should be allowed to vote from their camps as being in millions their yes and no holds sway. Ideally they should be returned but that would slow the progress and don't think the ceasefire will be implemented for a couple of years... Problem 2 Is that no elections can be conducted until they get rid of ISIS and other terror factions bcz its basic safety.. I know its impossible but frankly Assad, rebels, usa and Russia should create a four way prong and destroy ISIS from Syria together after which a cease fire is called and elections are held.... However lack of unity from both sides will.mean that this proposal won't happen.
