Russia proposes to Iran to organize licensed production of Russian T-90S tanks

Russian UralVagonZavod (UVZ) company is ready to establish T-90S main battle tanks (MBT) licensed production in Iran in the case of military-techinal cooperation liberalization and lifting of related limitations. It was revealed by the UVZ`s official spokeperson Alexey Zharich.

"The cooperation with Iran was ceased in accordance with the "On Measures to Provide the Implementation of the UN Security Council No.1929 Resolution Adopted on 9 June 2010" decree issued by the President of the Russian Federation. Nevertheless, if the related restrictions are lifted, UralVagonZavod in liaison with Rosobornexport will be ready to continue (military-technical) cooperation, namely, in the areas of T-90S MBT licensed production, T-72S MBT modernization and the upgrade of related facilities", Zharich said.

Previously, the chief of the Iranian Army, Brigadier General Ahmad-Reza Purdastan said, that the country did not need to buy Russian T-90S MBTs. He pointed out, that Iran was planning to produce armoured vehicles alone.

T-90 is a must for Iran, if they reject Iran will have no future in Armoured warfare.

Well iran has a huge market right for defense product so they just want a piece of it. I think Iran already has a good indusrial base for Tanks and armoured vehicles. Iran should look into Naval and Air modernisation.

I was referring to benefits of domestic potentials, it has nothing to do with sanctions.
this news published after our commander said will we rely on domestic Tanks.

This is an excellent offer. Iran however should only take it up if the Russians are willing to release T-90's sub systems for Iran's own tank, the Zulfikar.

They are really bad in trade deal ... they used it as card but in the end ,The Westerns sanctioned them ...

The meaning of that is very clear. That Iran is not interested in buying T-90 which is an old tank.

Iran is fishing for T-14 Armata production line.

Though the highest priorities for Iran should not even be these tanks. Iran needs air defense systems, electronic technologies and fifth generation fighter jets.
