Russia, Egypt nearing $3bn arms deal: report

. . . .
Along with this deal. Egypt also makes deal with PAC for:
50+ Super Mushak
50-70 JF-17s Block-II
UAVs from PAC, NESCOM & GIDS

The JF-17 would be a good choice with technology transfer offered along with 25 Mig-29 planes would help end Egyptian reliance on only US aircraft fleet , but such deals would need at least 3-4 years to be completed .

They can take equipment from Pakistan which can be quite helpful for them in Defending.

.
Do you mean, should make or has such a deal been signed

yo
They can take equipment from Pakistan which can be quite helpful for them in Defending.

Back in 2007 Egypt bought 120 karakoum advanced trainers from china with full technology transfer , 100 of these were manufactured in cairo and in 2010 they entered into a joint venture with chinese firm in production of 30 ASN-209 UAV .

They are now ordered 24 Mig-29 planes , from what I see they will start building a fleet of Mig29s to compensate in the future for any American decision to ban weapons exports to Egypt .

The JF-17 would surely be bought to replace J-7 and Mig-21 fleets , the new Egyptian policy has been based on diversifying their weapons suppliers and this started in 1998 .

Americans will not place a ban on arms exports on Egypt in the short term next 5-7 years so still Egypt has enough time to diversify its air fleet and most of Egyptian land forces equipment is either manufactured in Egypt or from Russian and European origins apart from the Abram tanks which still is 60% of its components were manufactured in Egypt .

Actually, the percentage of components manufactured in Egypt for the Abrams is somewhere above the 90% now, we only really rely on the US for the engines.

. .
Why the Did not buy the Jf-17 ?

JF-17 is not yet ready for export. Block 3 by 2016 is the earliest when JF-17 can be exported with integration of WS-13A engines. Once PAC ramps up JF-17 production to 25 per year, it would be able to supply both PAF and have surplus for export. :yes4:

I thought 90% was Assembly not manufacturing while Egypt manufactured fully 40-60% of the tank parts .

Engine is not an issue , it could be replaced if some issues with the usa come up , it Just important to avoid over-relying on the USA in any field , they are unreliable and would sell their allies for a penny .

All of it is assembled in Egypt while we produce pretty much everything but the engine now. Full eventual ToT and TopT was part of the deal struck with the Americans by Abughazala.

Has the MiG-29s order been confirmed so far?

All service works are carried out by the Arab Organisation for Industrilisation, everything from routine maintenance to complete overhauls of Russian as well as US or French equipment is carried out in Egypt.

Specifically for the Mig-29, no. All the infrastructure required to accommodate a new fighter will be installed though. There are engine rebuild factories for our other fighters though.

This is great news, I was not aware of this information.

My second question is if the engines are overhauled or not ? and if any parts are manufactured locally for the same ?
