December 26, 7:02 UTC+3
MOSCOW, December 25. /TASS/. The Air Defence Forces of the Ground Troops have taken into service advanced air defence missile systems S-300V4 and Tor-M2U in the outgoing year, official of the press service and information department of Russian Defence Ministry for the Ground Troops Major Kirill Kiselev told TASS.

“According to state contracts in 2014 two division sets of S-300V4 and Tor-M2U were supplied to the Air Defence Forces. Ahead of the New Year an air defence missile system S-300V4 was delivered for an air defence formation in the Southern Military District,” he said.

S-300V4 purchases planned under state armament programme until 2020 enable to arm all air defence missile brigades of the Ground Troops which should have this type of weapons, Kiselev added.

Meanwhile, four sets of a modern mobile air defence missile system Verba, were delivered to the armed forces, including two systems to the Airborne Forces and other two to multi-service units of the Ground Troops this year.

Verba is a state-of-the-art air defence missile system thanks to its high striking accuracy of low-radiation targets, such as cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.

I have read that Independence of Ukraine and other Ex SSR republics were done on the basis of the USSR regions and on this basis only ex SSR republics got Indpendence from USSR in which Russian Federation was the driving force.

Blaming things on Gorbachev or Yeltsin for the whole current situation would be incorrect. We all know that the Separatists are being backed by regular forces of Russian Federation.

“All of us, both politicians and society, are worried over what is going on in Ukraine," Mikhail Gorbachev said

“All of us, both politicians and society, are worried over what is going on in Ukraine. What has always been our inborn trait is that our government is supporting people who are in trouble, is receiving thousands of such people, regardless of our own troubles.”

When asked about possible development of the situation, Gorbachev said: “Serious meetings are needed, a serious conversation.” He reminded that he had already come out with an idea of a meeting between the United States and Russian leaders.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, in his words, has recently “voiced serious criticism of NATO and its expansion plans.” “I see the situation won’t improve. To a larger extent, I think, the president is right pointing to a special responsibility of the United States,” he noted.

TASS: Russia - Russia’s new military doctrine allows creation of joint missile defense systems
1076817.jpg

MOSCOW, December 26 /TASS/. Russia’s new military doctrine does not rule out creation of joint missile defense systems together with other countries on condition of Russia’s equal participation. The doctrine’s 2010 edition did not mention that possibility.

The document published on the Kremlin website on Friday sets forth Russia’s main tasks in deterring and preventing military conflicts. They include creation of mechanisms of mutually beneficial bilateral and multilateral cooperation in counteracting possible missile threats, including, if necessary, creation of joint missile defense systems if Russia has equal participation in these projects.

In addition to that, the document goes on to say, the Military doctrine provides for preventing attempts by separate countries (or a group of countries) to gain military superiority by stationing strategic anti-missile defense systems and strategic non-nuclear systems of precision weapons as well as deploying weapons in outer space.

The formation of the Arctic military command is part of Russia’s ongoing extensive program to build up presence in the Arctic

1077066.jpg

The formation of the Arctic military command is part of Russia’s ongoing extensive program to build up its presence in the Arctic. Last March, President Vladimir Putin said that the armed forces’ training and development efforts should incorporate measures to increase the combat component of the Arctic group. The Defense Ministry has since made several steps along these lines. Russia’s Defense Ministry is going to build 13 airdromes and 10 radars in the Arctic.

Russia announced it was recreating its military base on the Novosibirsk Islands in the Laptev Sea. An airfield was opened on Kotelny, the largest island of the archipelago. Another military airport, Rogachyovo, commissioned on the southern island of the Novaya Zemlya Archipelago, is capable of accommodating fighter jets.

The construction of the Tiksi airdrome in Yakutia’s northernmost locality, inside the Arctic circle, will be completed in 2015. Three airdromes - in the Alykel community (the Krasnoyarsk Territory), in Vorkuta (the Komi Republic), and in Anadyr, the administrative center of Chukotka, will be expanded.

Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said in late October that Russia will have full radar coverage of the Arctic region this year, while next year it will be ready “to meet unwanted guests” both from the north and from the east.

The new strategic Arctic Command went operational on December 1 on the basis of the Northern Fleet

MOSCOW, December 30. /TASS/. A regiment of air defense missile systems S-400 Triumf will be formed for the newly-created Arctic Command and deployed on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago next year.

“There are plans for forming an air defense regiment of the S-400 launchers to be deployed on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago and a battery of Pantsir-S1 combined surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery weapon systems, to be stationed at an air base inside the Arctic Circle,” a source at the General Staff has said.

According to earlier reports, an air defense unit based in the Kola Peninsula was armed with S-400 systems this year and Pantsir-S1 were deployed on the Novosibirsk islands.

The new strategic Arctic Command went operational on December 1 on the basis of the Northern Fleet. It incorporates a number of units of three military districts.

With 9 regiments already deployed across the country , the S-400 is expected to become a cornerstone of Russian air and missile defense by 2020.

MOSCOW, January 9 (Sputnik) — Russia's Northern Fleet has increased its air defense capability with the addition of S-400 Triumph air defense missile systems, the Fleet's spokesperson Vadim Serga said Friday.
"A division of air defense of the Northern Fleet has adopted into service new S-400 Triumph air defense missile systems," Serga stated without giving further details.

The S-400 Triumph long- to medium-range surface-to-air missile system can engage any aerial target, including aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, and cruise and ballistic missiles at a distance of up to 400 kilometers (250 miles) and an altitude of up to 30 kilometers (18.6 miles).
The S-400 is expected to form the cornerstone of Russian air and missile defense by 2020 with 9 regiments already deployed across the country as of December 2014.

The bolstering of Russia's Northern Fleet with S-400 systems comes amid the country's strategy to boost its presence in the Arctic region. Russian President Vladimir Putin noted in December that the country is not planning to militarize the Arctic, but is merely taking necessary measures to ensure a secure defense in the region.

TASS: Russia - Elements of new missile defense system tested in Russia

January 23, 19:53 UTC+3
Russian analogues of US’s THAAD and GMD missile defense systems are expected to be developed in the next few years

1079953.jpg

ST. PETERSBURG, January 23. /TASS/. Russia is testing elements of a new missile defense system, Yan Novikov, CEO of Almaz-Antei Concern, said on Friday.

“Currently, we are carrying out field tests of elements of a new missile defense system,” he said.

Meanwhile, he noted that the missile defense system that was developed in the 1990s is still being used as having no analogues in the world by a number of parameters.

In December 2014, Almaz-Antei’s designer general Pavel Sozinov said that Russian analogues of US’s THAAD and GMD missile defense systems would be developed in the next few years.

The Sarmat ICBM, with an operational range of no less than 5,500 kilometers, will replace the world’s largest strategic missile Voevoda (NATO reporting name – Satan) between 2018 and 2020.

MOSCOW, January 29 (Sputnik) — Full-scale testing of the new Russian Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile may be held in a year or year and a half after the drop tests scheduled in 2015, Lenta.Ru reported Thursday.

"If the drop tests go according to the plan and the missile performs well, it will be test launched in a year or a year and a half" according to a military source.

In the missile industry, the drop tests are primary tests aimed at performing the starting procedure of the missile.

The drop tests check the separate stages of the missile, according to the source.
"We use a special platform for checking the missile’s lift capacity," the source said.

The schedule of the drop tests is difficult to ascertain now, but in the industry they are usually performed at the end of the year, the source added.

Earlier, Deputy Defense Minister Yuri Borisov said the drop tests of Sarmat were scheduled to his year. Besides, Russian Strategic Missile Forces commander Col. Gen. Sergei Karakayev said the new missile was set to enter service by 2020.

The Sarmat ICBM, with an operational range of no less than 5,500 kilometers (over 3,400 miles), will replace the world’s largest strategic missile Voevoda (NATO reporting name – Satan) between 2018 and 2020.

While the technical specifications are currently unknown, the missile has been designated as heavy. Earlier Borisov said Sarmat’s payload would be roughly 10 tons.

According to the classification of the START treaties, a heavy missile is a missile weighing more than 105 tons. Satan is 211 tons in bulk and has a payload of 8.7 tons.
