As if USSR was a normal state. WHy shouldn't they have seperated from the the country that invaded them?

Kazakhstan was always a part of Russia for centuries under the various Czars. Before that, they were just independent chieftains monitoring different 'groups' as nomads.

They were better off living as a part of Russia.
