Russian Helicopters, a Russian helicopter manufacturing company, delivered a Mi-171E civil helicopter in a convertible version to the representatives of Pakistani southern province of Balochistan, the company said Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Mi-171E helicopters belong to the Mi-8/17 series, which was developed and introduced in the 1970s, with dozens of variant modifications created to suit various operating conditions, climates and customers developed since then. A total of over 12,000 Mi-8/17s are in service in over 100 countries.

"This is the second convertible Mi-171E helicopter delivered to Pakistan this year," the statement read.

The vehicle comes in a convertible version, which can be used for transport as well as for carrying 13 passengers and a flight attendant. In transport mode, the helicopter is capable of carrying up to 27 passengers and up to 4 tonnes of cargo.

The contract for delivering of the helicopter was sealed in December 2016, the company added.

The company supplied the first Mi-171E helicopter to Pakistan in April.

Russian Helicopters handed over Mi-171E nondefense helicopter in a convertible option to representatives of Pakistan’s Baluchistan Province, the Russian holding said on Friday.

"I am confident the convertible Mi-171E handed over to the customer will perform decently when accomplishing any missions, whether in passenger and freight carriage or in medical, search and rescue operations," Chief Executive Officer of Russian Helicopters Andrei Boginsky said in a comment.

This is already the second Mi-171E helicopter delivered to Pakistan this year.

Russian Helicopters made the helicopter supply contract with the government of Baluchistan Province in December 2016. The helicopter was built in the convertible option. The helicopter cabin can be converted from a freight one to a VIP cabin with 13 seats and a flight attendant at customer’s option within the short period.

Mi-171E can carry up to 27 passengers and up to four tonnes of cargo inside the cabin or on the external suspension in its transport version. Three points for direct deployment provide quick landing of paratroopers and rescuers when the helicopter is hovering.

Pakistan needs to work with China to build these kinds of helicopters.

I agree. I never understood this. Why does Pakistan not start a JV to build Z-19 (light attack) and Z-20 transport helicopters in-house. They can sell to the entire ME and Africa and just like the JF-17, make good profit. In fact, helicopters will give you more profit as countries are usually reluctant in buying a new jet to be a mainstay for their airforces. But transport helicopters or light attack heli's aren't that critical so easy sales in my opinion.

Pakistan has received a Russian-made Mi-171E non-combat helicopter, the second such chopper delivered to the country this year, indicating growing ties between Islamabad and Moscow, a media report has said.

The Mi-171 is a civilian variant of the Mi-17 military cargo helicopter, which is already in service in the Pakistan Army. The second helicopter was ordered by Pakistan's restive Balochistan province.

"I am confident the convertible Mi-171E handed over to the customer will perform decently when accomplishing any missions, whether in passenger and freight carriage or in medical, search and rescue operations," Chief Executive Officer of Russian Helicopters Andrei Boginsky was quoted as saying by the Russia's TASS news agency.

In the case of a medical emergency, the chopper can be used as an ambulance as it has the capacity to carry 14 stretchers if seats are replaced.

Russian Helicopters made the helicopter supply contract with the government of Balochistan province in December 2016.

The helicopter was built in the convertible option. The helicopter cabin can be converted from a freight one to a VIP cabin with 13 seats and a flight attendant at customer's option within the short period.

Mi-171E can carry up to 27 passengers and up to four tonnes of cargo inside the cabin or on the external suspension in its transport version. Three points for direct deployment provide quick landing of paratroopers and rescuers when the helicopter is hovering, it said.

The Mi-17 is widely used across the world due to its reliability and ability to operate in all climates and could be used by the provincial government to transport cargo or passengers or as an emergency response aircraft.

Russian Helicopters has sold Mi-171E helicopters to several countries, including China.

In March, for the first time, a high-level Russian military delegation had visited Pakistan's restive tribal region along the Afghan border to get first-hand information of the situation in the former strongholds of the terrorists.

Balochistan has also been facing insurgency by Baloch nationalists and Islamist terrorists.

Earlier this year, on February 13, a blast took place near the Saryab Bridge in Karachi killing two personnel of the bomb disposal squad and leaving 11 injured.
