Russia has approved the deal to provide Bangladesh a $11.38 billion loan for the Rooppur nuclear power plant.

RT News reported that the Russian government cleared the deal on Monday. Bangladesh government will finance the rest of the project, which will cost Tk 12.65 billion to build two plants of 1200 MW each. On Jun 27, the Bangladesh government gave its go-ahead for the loan deal.

The repayment period will be 30 years with a 10-year grace period. Bangladesh will have to start yearly repayments in March 2027, the cabinet secretary had said. The annual interest rate will be below 4 percent.

The government expects the first unit of the plant, having a 50-year lifespan, to be commissioned in 2021.

Bangladesh has advanced so much! I first visited Bangladesh as a child during the 1980s and the country wIas in a poor state of affairs: poverty, loadshedding, etc. Now its economy is doing well. It's a totally different place now.

India paid 2.6 billion for the two 1000 MW reactors to Russia. Why BD paying way more? Steel prices are way down too.

I think Bangladesh is using the latest model offered by Russia.Changes and adjustment has to be made.

. . . . .
thats very big deal, and most imp for cleaner form of energy

Possible, but still 2.6 and 11.3 is big F difference.
If iphone5 costs 50k, we expect iphone6 to cost 65k , not 10 lac rs.

I think they are also counting the compensation to the people who will be removed in lakhs so that land can be provided for the reactor...........BD is one of the most massively populated regions.

Ms. Hasina has been the God's Gift to BD........

She has done wonders for her nation.......

May she rule BD till the last breath of her life!!

True. And a very strong lady too.. absolutely destroyed jamatis and war criminals. Hope she rules BD for a long time. She is 68, so she definitely has 2 more terms in her age wise, if not more. :D

.
But way too risky country like Bangladesh with heavy floods could be a catastrophic event if nPlant struck by floods.

That's why money is being spent as precautionary, preventing catastrophic results.
