Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) has detained a Chinese national they say was trying to gain access to secret information about the S-300 air defense system, the FSB said in a statement on Wednesday.

Tun Shenjun was arrested on October 28, 2010. News of his arrest has only just been made public.

"It was established that the Chinese citizen was working for the State Security Ministry, the security agency of the People's Republic of China, as a translator for official delegations and was gathering secret information from Russian citizens about technical and repair documentation for the S-300 missile system," the FSB said.

Russia's General Prosecutor's office filed a criminal case at a Moscow court on October 4.

Russia has supplied the S300 system to China, and Beijing is also licensed to manufacture it.

The S300 has been replaced in Russia with the S400.

The Chinese authorities have yet to comment.

I would always say that China should keep a watchful eye on both the north and southern neighbors long-term.

Well spying is nothing new...but what is interesting is how Russia chose to handle the news..
It clearly shows mistrust....no matter how much the Chinese downplay it. The chines dot even try to be considerate ..

However business is business nevertheless a balance should always be made wrt diplomacy.

They just want people to buy more of their SAM, nothing more.

They usually sell downgraded version of their top of the line products.

Yeah, but S-300 will still be popular for the third world market.

Just like it would keep selling Su-35 even when PAK FA is available.

The SAM-400 isn't necessary for most third world nations.

Chinese must realise that: their defense system still so weak, so don't dream too much about super-power, it's just China propaganda only. That why, even Myanmar also can stab her back :pop:

Stop :blah::blah: to the world about your power now, Chinese wasted your tax for Nothing good

Stop acting like a fool.

We are the victims of their public stunt.

The Ruskies love to make money by cleaning up the gadgets in its inventory. Just like they keep making bags of money by selling its outdated Kilo subs to your nation.

Wonder why they didn't claim it was S-500?

At least make the story more believable. :coffee:

Do you still believe it is plausible that the China from today still needs to steal the outdated technology like S-300?

They didn't claim S-500, something that China could be possibly interested about.

It is S-300, so it is definitely an advertisement for their S-300, because it is so wonderful, even a military power like China is still drooling over this particular technology.
