Rs400,000 electric car introduced in Pakistan for the first time

Most of that 4 lakh will anyway get converted to USD and then go to China (where this thing no doubt originates)....adding to existing BoP problem in Pakistan.

All because Pakistan refuses to reform and invest in actual real capacity+value added for itself. Whole concept seems to have taken a real psychological beating for a few decades now.

Most simply have no idea about it.
The sad part is that Pakistan actually has a domestic market that can actually sustain at least 1 or 2 turnkey auto manufacturers (be it petrol or electric). Not only that, but Pakistan's domestic scale can also make it a competitive automobile and auto-parts exporter, which could contribute heavily towards its hard-currency (as well as retain USD by not importing as much).

that is correct; i fail to see why that is not possible given the scale of economies; i am afraid in my country we are seeing an entire lost decade under Zuma and his indian henchmen Guptas who systematically have looted the country and its institutions and yet ANC is now not a party of liberation but a drinking trough of looters and india - indians transplants who need to be whipped out of political existance.

I would rather tear up Rs 400000 than buying this BS.

People have no idea how much they are being charged for shits that have no market value in the world. The just want to see something below the already established unjustified high rates. “are waah, 4 lak ki hai ye gari, mujhe nai fark parhta ye gari kia hai but 4 lak, wow”
All Pakistan needs is a modern battery(car battery) manufacturing plant(like that of Tesla or comparable enough). Other than that Pak has the capability to build an electric car. It should be designed with the ppl's purchasing power in mind...as in don't go overboard in terms of luxury. Just test it for safety...stick to that design for a while so that the more units built of the same would eventually lower the cost per unit. No need to reinvent the wheel either by trying to build everything domestically...for example airbags...many big companies like Toyota, Honda, etc. all use the airbags from the same company(I can't recall the name at the moment). An electric car can serve as the same kind of jump for Pak as cell phone tech did for some developing countries(who skipped laying down landline infrastructure). They don't require en engine, transmission, fuel pumps, etc. Pak has enough local talent(and can use Chinese assistance to import machinery) and local investors can provide the money...with cheap labor...a mass produced car(decent in design and safety) can give many competitors a run for their money.

A Karachi-based company introduced its own range of electric vehicles on Friday.

Crown Group has been making auto parts since 1963. It displayed a number of environmentally friendly vehicles, including motorcycles, auto-rickshaws, cars and ambulances, which it says are energy efficient.

The starting price for an electric car, a pilot project, is Rs400,000. It’s a two-door hatchback with a seating capacity of two persons. The prices of the rickshaws and motorcycles are between Rs200,000 and Rs55,000 respectively.

The company says its vehicles will cost Rs1.25 for each kilometre travelled, which “makes it the cheapest” option available for transport.

Farhan Hanif, the chairperson of the group, says the two and three wheeler automobiles can travel 60km to 70km on a full charge. A car fully charged on a 50-amp battery can travel up to 50kms.

Eight Chinese companies have partnered with the Crown Group in joint ventures, said Hanif, adding that the company is ready to expand production as soon as the government implements its electric vehicle policy.

A draft of the policy awaits the government’s approval.

If the government keeps its word on the electric vehicle policy, the custom duty on imports of auto-parts will only be 1% while the sales tax will not exceed 5%, said the chairperson.

He emphasised that the advent of electric vehicles will help boost Pakistan’s economy and introduce new jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities as specific power stations to charge the vehicles will have to be established.

Crown Group is a new player in the electric vehicles market and has invested Rs2 billion to set up its manufacturing plant.

Can they atleast try and make them look better? We are living in 2020 ffs, imagine all of this mess being driven on our streets.

Yep, that's lead battery. For the pack of the same weight, LFP battery would probably triple or quadruple the range

The problem with battery-powered electric vehicles is the time it takes to charge the battery. Google gives this answer :

There is another project called the QUANTiNO Car which uses what the company calls nanoFlowCell which is powered by "Bi-ION" liquid charge :

The above method provides refuel-and-go functionality just like petroleum-driven cars instead of the overnight-charging limit of the Tesla vehicles.

Good publicity material, since we don't have the technology or manufacturing base to make Li-ion, Bi-Ion or the upcoming high density batteries these cars or vehicles I don't see them prospering unless we somehow get rid of traffic blocks due to VIP movement or protest of one type or the other. Making these vehicles recharge via solar energy could be an alternate but then again we don't have that kind of solar panels in Pakistan.

But its a starts, knowing our ingenuity and perseverance I am sure we will find some "jugarh"

Hahaha why not import duty free golf carts into the streets, that'll cost less than this.
This liberandu @Zibago thinks Pakistani people are fools. Electricity thanks to IMF is highest in the world how would they built car charging stations here with such high inflation.

Although the drive towards E-Mobility remains one of the cornerstones of Sustainable Energy and Environment, one can simply not ignore the most important factor in this regard, safety.

These vehicles do look if they can be renamed as coffin on wheels given the disregard to safety in construction, one must remember that safety regulations are Government matter and apparently this is standard of safety as determined by the government of Pakistan for its citizens.

Those LSEVs can't go above 50-60km/h. So, even fibreglass or good PET will absorb the impact.

Even if they do not make it to 60kmh, the safety regulations put dangers of a fatal injury at mere 10kmh in most countries. I do not imagine that to be much different in Pakistan either.

Hahaha

your post on electric vehicle higher than the cost of second hand rickshaw shows which parallel universe you live in.

If you wouldve bothered to actually read up on this story you wouldve noticed the price for electric rickshaw which is 2 lakh roughly the same price as that of a 6 seater 200cc rickshaw
