Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday called the displaced Rohingyas and stranded Pakistanis as burden for Bangladesh, saying they are putting pressure on country's economy.

"Three years have already passed after Rohingyas influx in Bangladesh and it's a burden for us," she said.

The prime minister said this while newly appointed ambassador of the Netherlands to Bangladesh Anne Gerard Van Leeuwen paid a courtesy call on her at her official Ganabhaban residence in the capital.

She added that the Rohingyas are also destroying the environment and forest resources of Cox's Bazar.

She also talked about the stranded Pakistanis, saying, "These (Rohingyas and stranded Pakistanis) are creating economic pressure on Bangladesh."

PM's press secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed the newsmen after the meeting.

Talking about the Rohingya issue, the Netherlands envoy apprised of his

To this end, she recalled Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s stance to develop Bangladesh through land reclamation like the Netherlands.

Recalling her last visit to the Netherlands the prime minister said that she was overwhelmed to see production and preservation of agricultural items using the Green House system.

“We can also adopt the system as our country is an agro-based one,” she said.

The Dutch envoy said they are eager to share their experience to this end.

Sheikh Hasina said her government is doing the river dredging in the country as part of the measures to increase water reservoirs to preserve water.

The prime minister said that they are converting the Cox’s Bazar airport into an international airport to attract more tourists in the world's longest unbroken sandy sea-beach.

She said her government is setting up 100 economic zones at different parts the country to attract more domestic and foreign investment and thus spur the country’s overall development.

Dutch ambassador Anne Gerard Van Leeuwen appreciated Bangladesh's development under the visionary and dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The envoy said that he had travelled Bangladesh by air and witnessed the landscape of the country which he said similar to his own country.

Later, Ambassador of Nepal in Bangladesh Banshidhar Mishra paid a farewell call on prime minister Sheikh Hasina at her official Ganabhaban residence in the capital.

The prime minister said Bangladesh is developing the Syedpur Airport as a regional one and Nepal can use the airport.

She also offered Nepal to use Mongla and Paira ports.

The prime minister also recalled with gratitude Nepal's support during the War of Liberation.

PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed newsmen after the call on.

The Nepalese envoy has sought cooperation from Bangladesh for development of their agriculture sector.

He also praised Bangladesh’s overall development saying that they are moved with its development.

The Nepalese envoy thanked the prime minister as Nepal always gets Bangladesh’s support in their needs and recalled Bangladesh’s medical assistance after the earthquake hit their country.

He thanked the Bangladesh prime minister on behalf of his country's president and prime minister as she sent Haribhanga Mangoes.

Ambassador-at-Large Mohammad Ziauddin and principal secretary Ahmad Kaikaus were present at the meetings.

It's time Pakistan should take those stranded Pakistanis back. When you claim to be a country created for Indian Muslims and then deny the entry to these very Indian Muslims doesnt make sense. This might also help restore normal relations with Bangladesh.

How did Pakistanis get stranded in Bangladesh?!

That’s incomplete statement. They sided with Pakistani army, did not want independence of Bangladesh and even after independence was not ready to take Bangladeshi citizenship.
YES you are right they were migrated for Pakistan not BD .

We should give visas to those stranded Pakistani's. If after 50 years these people still recognise themselves as Pakistani and not Bangladeshi, we should respect their choice.

in 1947 muslims of BIHAR and east india migrated to east pakistan .
Based on the Prime Minister's statement, it seems like these people are not economically well to do. Pakistan may be a better option for them.

Do they have the legal legitimacy to live and vote in Pakistan? Afterall, no one can be stateless as per international law?

no sir they are not consider paksitanis here . paksitan only give citizenship to whom have family tree in west pakistan . we have 6mn bengalis and burmees whom we did not given pakistani nationality too they live like stateless people . they have no legitimacy here . Pakistan did not consider them Pakistanis since 1971 .

the plan was jeopardized in 1970s . few C-130s were transported them and make villages in upper punjab near khushab also . gov give them homes few house hold items etc and make them new villages but these guys leave that villages and move to big cities as soon as arrived . since then plan was cancelled as sindh objected them they were flooding karachi . hen no province was ready to take anyone from out and its impossible to bring them

They have been offered BD citizenship.... many have taken it up and have become BD citizen and issue resolved.

Others have refused, PK do not want them and BD can not force them to take up BD citizenship.

At this point its really stupid.

This stupid woman PM should stop bickering on stranded Pakistanis. These people are from Bihar, UP and some other Provinces of India. They left everything in India and migrated to east Pakistan. So, you cannot just say they are Pakistanis.

Politics with Pakistan should not be used to slap on the face of these Muhajirs from India. They are our people. They are not yet willing to accept a separate country in the easten wing of Pakistan. But, they themselves are also victims by their leaders in London and somewhere.

The GoB must show prudence and patience with the Bihari case. We have to understand also that there is more than 10 Lakh of Bengali in Karachi.

Their stand is incorrigible.

From BD's perspective, it is a liability to have these people when they harbor demonstrable anti-state leaning. Is there any count on the number of such people in Bangladesh? Are they entitled to employment and services from the state?

No official count if I am not mistaken. There are 5-10 lakh Biharis in Bangladesh. Excluding the ones who have already taken Bangladeshi citizenship their number May be between 3-5 lakh.

As they are not Bangladeshi citizen or obtained Bangladeshi NID card so they can’t do any government or official job where those info are required.

They mostly do informal job or business.

On another note the Bangladeshi PM shows again what a shit person she is. One one hand she is full of praise for the economy and the progress Bangladesh is making, then on the other hand she claims a few hundred thousand refugees are exerting economic pressure.
