Rohingyas, stranded Pakistanis exerting economic pressure on Bangladesh: PM Hasina

Their stand is incorrigible.

From BD's perspective, it is a liability to have these people when they harbor demonstrable anti-state leaning. Is there any count on the number of such people in Bangladesh? Are they entitled to employment and services from the state?

I do not think BD views them as security threat. These people are muslim in a muslim country.

The issue is they live in refugee camps. Integration is limited and they do not have the capacity to vote, they are unable to take up higher education, stable jobs etc.

There is zero impediments to taking up BD citizenship. This issue is not a big one and in time all of these guys will take up BD citizenships. The last remnants of holdouts remains. The second, third and now forth generation have known nothing but Bangladesh. At this point what really is achieved by holding out for PK citizenship...its not happening. Once the 71 generation dies this issue will die with them.

These so called standed Pakistanies are BD citizens. This issue wont carry on very long.

Sindh should offer to take them.

There is more Pakistaniyat in them than those who change the name of their gods at the prospect of land reforms.

On another note the Bangladeshi PM shows again what a shit person she is. One one hand she is full of praise for the economy and the progress Bangladesh is making, then on the other hand she claims a few hundred thousand refugees are exerting economic pressure.

It is factually correct. These people needs to take up BD citizenship and just be. No one is asking them to foget Urdu or abandon their uniqueness.

As long as they remain on refugee camps....BD shares majority of the bill for the stipends they receive, the security infastructure necessary to penn them in the refugee camp etc.. Utter waste of money, it is a cost BD can better spend elsewhere. For the people they are not realising their potential chasing an impossible dream.

As i said before the whole situation is dumb.

Based on what I've learned from this thread, they are Muslims in a Muslim country who do not want this particular Muslim state to exist! They would rather move to Pakistan; if they can do anything about it, they would rather call Bangladesh as Pakistan 🤔

Do they have a standing offer from Bangladesh state to take citizenship? Perhaps they just don't have this offer anymore.

That’s incomplete statement. They sided with Pakistani army, did not want independence of Bangladesh and even after independence was not ready to take Bangladeshi citizenship.

How did Pakistanis get stranded in Bangladesh?!

I think these stranded Pakistanis are being held as hostages in BD.

So they are POWs. How long is BD planning to keep them? Generally POWs get released in months or years. In this case these POWs are under detention for over 50 years. That is very cruel.

It's time Pakistan should take those stranded Pakistanis back. When you claim to be a country created for Indian Muslims and then deny the entry to these very Indian Muslims doesnt make sense. This might also help restore normal relations with Bangladesh.
You are absolutely right. We are morally bound to take those stranded Pakistanis back, and send back millions of Bengalis living in Pakistan to Bangladesh. It's a fair swap. I'm all for it.

That's not even logical let alone fair. bengali doesn't equal to Bangladeshi. ones a linguistic group, the other is an administrative unit.

India claims over 400 million Bangladeshis live in India.

I think the question is If the Bengalis in Pakistan are citizens of Pakistan or POWs?

Standing offer that wont change.... BD does not believe PK will offer citizenship and also you can not force citizenship on anyone. Time will take of the issue.

What people don't realise is out of all neighbouring countries, Pakistan's citizenship laws are most mature and the country has kept a national database as long as she has kept a constitution.

There was a steady stream of migrants fleeing Bangladesh in the 80s which lasted way in late 90s owing to political turmoil and 20 year long military operations.

Do these people have Pakistani citizenship? If yes then what is the outstanding issue?
