The Mujahideen insurgency in Arakan (1947-1961)[edit]

A widespread armed insurgency started with the formation of a political party Jami-a-tul Ulema-e Islam led by the Chairman Omra Meah with the material support of Ulnar Mohammad Muzahid Khan and Molnar Ibrahim.[5] The ambition of the Mujahideen insurgency was to merge the Mayu frontier district of Arakan into East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). Before the independence of Burma, in May 1946, some Muslim leaders from Arakan addressed themselves to Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, and asked his assistance in annexing of the Mayu region to Pakistan which was about to be formed.[2] Two months later, the North Arakan Muslim League was founded in Akyab (modern: Sittwe, capital of Arakan State). It demanded annexation to Pakistan.[2]

The Burmese central government refused to grant a separate Muslim state in the Mayu region where two townships (Buthidaung and Maungdaw) lie. As a consequence, the Mujahids from Northern Arakan declared jihad on Burma.[6] The Mujahid militants began their insurgent activities in the Buthidaung and Maungdaw townships (Mayu region) of Burma that lies on Burma-East Pakistan border. One of the major figures in the insurgency was Abdul Kassem.[7]

Within a few years, Mujahid rebels made rapid progress and banished the Arakanese villages. The Arakanese inhabitants of Buthidaung and Maungdaw were forced to leave their homes. In June 1949, the Burmese government's control was reduced to Akyab city only, while the Mujahids were in possession of all of northern Arakan. The Burmese government accused the Mujahids of encouraging illegal immigration into Arakan of thousands of Bengali people from East Pakistan. why the butt hurt now? where were you ppl when peaceful mujahids were killing and raping poor Arakanese locals?

In this case i agree with Indian members here, Rohingya peoples it is not kind of peoples who you can take it for granted. They are not like Vietnamese, Thais, Phillipines, Chinese (Hui or Han) who can assimilate themselves with local populations and get a good relationship with them. In Indonesia, refugees of those Rohingyas from Myanmar made several ruckus and even murdering Myanmar fisherman who doesn't involved in the conflict. For worse, they even attacked local Budhist and Tiong Hoa shrine in Medan, Indonesia. What else you can expect from those thugs

Well its the fact and its bitter truth. in malaysia there are rohingyas refugees here and i worked on a project to help them and my friends are working on it too. its really hurt crying to hear about there livelihood and how they arrive in malaysia and what is happening with them in myanmar.

Sometime back there were Persian speakers also in keeping with Bengal Sultans who used Persian as the official language. For instance, the first recorded poet in Bengali language was Alaoal. He was a Persian scholar and a poet in Arakan Sultan's Court. He was also a general of artillery in Arakan Army.

3. In the very recent times Rohingya leaders have started encouraging the people to learn Bangla. This is a significant development since the Rohigyas used to refuse learning Bangla even in the refugee camps.

There are about fifteen Mizo families who were selected and taken to live in Israel some years back. The Christian missionaries in Mizoram had raised objections to this but the project has not been abandoned in Israel. David Abel, said to be longest serving commerce minister anywhere, was holding that post under Ne Win and the next man in Burma. He is a Jew and there is a Jewish community in Burma. BBC has done two or may be more documentaries on the Mizo Jews. One I remember was called The People of the Naf, which is a river between BD and Arakan.

Lashkar radicalises Rohingyas to wage war against India

The Bangladesh government has confirmed to New Delhi that terror groups like the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) have instigated Rohingyas to avenge last year’s sectarian violence in Myanmar.

This more narrowly focusses on the Indian investigations into the July 7 serial bomb blast at the Mahabodhi temple in Gaya, Bihar, on Islamic militant groups inside India and Bangladesh.

The Rohingyas are Myanmar’s Muslim minority, largely settled in the coastal Arakan province. Myanmar has seen increasing sectarian violence in the past two years between its dominant Buddhist majority and the Rohingyas.

For the first time, senior government sources said, the presence of several thousand Rohingya refugees in India was discussed by senior Home Ministry, police and intelligence officials at the Independence Day security coordination meeting on Tuesday.

An estimated 5,000 Rohingya refugees live around Delhi, with a particularly large number living in slums along Sona Road near Gurgaon. Officials also red flagged such clusters following evidence that a section of the Rohingya community has been radicalized by pan-Islamicist groups.

These groups have attracted a few Rohingyas by promising to help them carry out retribution against Myanmar, Bangladesh and India.

There are sizeable Rohingya populations in Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and even Jammu and Kashmir. Rohingya refugees are often seen protesting in Delhi outside the United Nations Human Rights Commission asking for UN refugees status.

Indian antennae have been raised since LeT supremo Hafiz Saeed issued a statement on June 1 in Lahore accusing India of assisting the Myanmar regime in its persecution of the Rohingyas.

Intelligence reports from Dhaka have also confirmed the presence of Lashkar commanders on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border. The LeT is believed to be recruiting Rohingyas, offering to help them to seek revenge against the Buddhists through terrorist acts.

According to the Bangladesh government, umbrella organization like Jamaat-ul-Arakan and the Rohingya Solidarity Organization are running terror training camps in remote areas of Bandarban district of Bangladesh adjoining the Myanmar border. With the Bangladesh-Myanmar border turning into a new theatre of global jihad, the US and other Western powers have begun monitoring this area.

After the 2012 Muslim-Buddhist clashes in Myanmar, Bangladeshi security agencies made a series of arrests that revealed plans to radicalize, train and fund some Rohingya refugees with the help of Pakistan based terror groups and Saudi Arabian financiers.

It was through these suspects that Bangladeshi security agencies came to learn of the visit to Arakan of Al Qaeda explosive expert Nur Bashar and the banned Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan’s shura member, Mufti Abu Zarra ul Burmi, who was employed as a teacher in Karachi University before joining IMU in 2004.

LeT attempts to dabble in the Arakan date well before the 2012 violence. They also have an Indian connection. It was Abdul Karim Tunda, a Pilakhuwa (Ghaziabad )-born Lashkar commander who masterminded a series of bombing in North India in 1996-98, who had travelled from Pakistan to Bangladesh over the past decade to explore the possibility of recruiting Rohingya youth for terror.

The Lashkar has been assisted by Rohingya extremist leaders including Rabiul Alam, a Pakistan trained jihadist from the Teknaf region, and another person identified as “Dr Yunus,” who is the coordinator of the Rohingya Solidarity Organisation in Bangladesh.

The terror headache assumes global dimensions as the RSO is being funded by Saudi Arabian NGO World Assembly of Muslim Youth through Dr Yunus and his associate Maulana Rashid of Cox’s Bazaar.

Indian, Bangladesh and Western security agencies are still trying to piece together the Rohingya threat. New Delhi has urged the Yangon military to take up genuine Rohingya grievances, like their economic and social marginalisation in Myanmar, but so far to no avail.

But with the threat assessment of Rohingya refugees on the rise, the Indian home ministry is planning to order a census of refugees in India as a precautionary security move.

We have some 500K-800K as refugees in BD currently. More Rohingyas live as refugees in other countries than in Mayanmar. We gave them refuge during 2 forced exodus previously. But this time we have a scum bag bastard gov that didn't give them any shelter but shut down the door while they were slaughtered. In fact people giving them shelter were warned and sometimes harassed by state directive. Current gov simply doesn't care and even attempted to use them as scapegoats for their political purpose. The awami bastards along side their Indian masters are trying to project rohingyas as extremist and terrorist. India media is good in making myths up and then blow it out of proportion and U can already see some articles relating to such propaganda.

If U ask me I am in favour of accepting the rohingyas from mayanmar. There is hardly 1 million of them now. I believe we should advocate and go for a diplomatic thrust to pursue other muslim countries + US/canadian hypocrites to share this 1 million people with us. Had we been stronger like Turkey I would advocated a military takeover of Arakan region but since we are not yet, this is a feasible option IMO. Burmese are uncivilized monkyes and will kill them again. Most ethnic minorities are under threat in Mayanmar.

That's pretty bad. Secular govt's who claimed to be Muslims but they are Munafiqs(hypocrites). Just like when they announced a harsh punishment on the Bangla Islamiya politicial leader that has to do something with the 70s war back when he was a kid but I don't believe it because it doesn't make sense. This happens in all Muslim countries.

Good idea but the problem is Muslims around the world are sleeping but the one government who would agree with you is the AKP because Erdogan showed support for them,. His wife and the foreign minister was the only govt to visited the Rohinywas(see YT). I think the reason for not stepping up for support to them is because he doesn't have a 'full' countrol of his country particularly the military and also it wil disturb the West and the Kemalist oppostion making them think Erdogan is trying to be an Ottoman leader by meddling in other Muslim countries who suffers with difficulty which he is doing it 'slowly'. Anyway, I heard Bangladesh, Pakistan and Indonesia formed a resistance group to help the Rohingyas. The media will probably mention them to destroy their image by portraying them as 'extremist' and to avoid mentioning Burma's genocide against them. I don't care when others say "you're supporting the militant who kill innocent Burmanese so you are an extremist", I just support them because they are defending themselves from those savages. Now, let's pray to Allah that they can make good progress.
