A day after the Udhampur attack in Jammu, Border Security Force (BSF) DG D.K. Pathak said had it not been for the 'courage and valour' shown by Constable Rocky, the scale of damage would have been much greater.

Rocky fell to the bullets of one of the two Lashkar- e-Taiba (LeT) militants. He was the only one armed in the BSF bus that was targeted. There were 42 other personnel also on board.

Apart from Rocky, constable Subhendu Rai also died fighting the LeT militant - identified as Noman alias Nomi. "Had it not been for Constables Rocky and Subhendu Rai, there could have been more mayhem

as there were 44 others on the bus." said Mr. Pathak.

He said this was the first time in two decades that NH1A, the main highway which connects Jammu to Srinagar, has been targeted.

"It was considered to be a safe territory till now, our convoys were moving in the area as part of routine duty. There is no fixed pattern on movement of convoy, we keep changing it," he added.

On reports that Noman was killed by a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan, Mr. Pathak said, "There is absolutely no doubt who killed the terrorist.”
