The US basketball teams say farewell to Rio...

.
Gold medalists will receive $25,000, silver medalists get $15,000, and bronze winners earn $10,000. These earnings are all taxed heavily.

The medals themselves are also taxed. This is in accordance with the value of the metal used to make the medal, so Gold is taxed the highest and Bronze the lowest.

Many US Olympic athletes don't opt for the monetary reward because it's so heavily taxed that you're taking chump change home at the end of the day.

Outside of the US the top fifteen nations in accordance to monetary reward for Olympic winners is this:

G'day Mate

Australian Government does not offer any incentive to athletes winning any type of medal in the Olympics, the cash/prize incentive are sponsored by the national sponsorship and they have a different price and prize list for different Olympic game.

This year, the sponsor, Adidas offered A$20,000 worth of bonus to athletes that win gold, A$13,500 to silver medallist, A$10,000 for bronze. Adidas will also include other package (like free training equipment, overseas trip) as part of the winning bonus.

In 2004, a Gold medallist would have around $100,000 cash bonus (When you put all the sponsors reward together) with a free car donated by Holden, Grant Hackett famously have his golden VX to go with his gold medal and top at $125,000 in 2014 games, but this year, the sponsorship is next to nothing, simply because most of the majority sponsor had pulled out. I think the sponsor left for Rio is Adidas, Qantas (which offer free flight to Rio), Swisses Supplement, not sure if these athletes were funded properly from AIS, which is traditionally the biggest sponsor.

Yes the good old days, I could go on The Ultimate Warrior, The Heart Foundation, Rick Rude, Mr Perfect etc.

As for South Asia they honestly don't give a toss about other sports, and the main reason is bloody cricket. That game has a lot to answer for. Every decent athlete gets thrown into it, I mean the Pakistani team had men over 6ft 4, and why the hell would you get them to play cricket? Send them into wrestling, boxing etc. Pakistan, India and Bangladesh are obsessed with it, and just don't give other sports a chance. Now couple that with no funding what so ever, and you have the situation you described i.e. not a single gold. Pathetic. Even the funding excuse is a grey area, I mean how much funding do you need for some wrestling mats, which can also translate into Judo? How much do you need for a simple ring and boxing gloves? What about weights, the initial cost is only the plates and bars and that's it! Yes you need coaches but I'm sure they could spare some of the budget for that. For crying out loud there are poor and retired Cuban athletes who would do a fantastic job if you paid them decently.

I know. However, even discounting the fact that these countries are focus on our gentleman sports cricket, it still doesn't explain that a whole region of 1.7billion people can't win a SINGLE gold medal. . I mean, come on even in many subsaharan African countries who are more focused on Football and don't have any infrastructure or funding , they still manage to win gold medals. Even Ivory coast got a gold medal.:tsk:

Lance Armstrong, Williams brothers, Simone Biles...
There is state-sponsored doping in "USA". All US athletes should be stripped of medals and baned for life.

.
Sport on Olympic level is impossible without substantial medical and pharmacological support. Athletes of all leading teams sometimes are catched for doping. But the leaked information shows that reception of heavy stimulants and drugs (amphetamines and steroids) by Team USA athletes is organized, systematic and supported by USADA and WADA.
Guess on the photos, which of these 2 gymnasts takes potent chemicals?

and John Cogner, Michelle Carter, etc. 10 athletes, more then any other team, 2 times more then British or German team.

Seems to be interesting continuation of the Olympic Games 2016.

All Murican drugcheats (Simon Biles and many many more) should be striped of Olympic medals.

The good old days. :D

What's shocking for me in this olympics is that In-terms of regions, South Asia failed to win a single gold! That is really sad, for a sub-continent with a population over 1.7 BILLION, that pretty demoralizing

WOW, I have an answer to your question! And the answer is in recent BBC publication:dirol:
http://www.bbc.com/sport/cycling/37371057
"Fifty-three British athletes from the Rio Olympics may be at risk of having their medical details made public, says the head of UK Anti-Doping."
This statement implies that 53 British athletes from British Olympic team have an official permission from WADA to use doping, which is banned to athletes from other countries. The question is only which kind of chemicals - steroids or amphetamines.
"The files were stolen from the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada). They relate to therapeutic use exemptions (TUEs), which allow banned substances to be used for medical reasons." So British Olympic team includes 53 ill athletes  :omghaha:.
"there is no suggestion the athletes are involved in any wrongdoing" So British athletes use only right doping. :sarcastic: I think British team should share this useful experience with athletes from other countries.

No chance. All these official sports structures are one mafia.

New US drugcheats exposed by whistleblowers from Fancy Bears' hack team:

It's time to ban "USA" from Olympic Games and strip US "athletes" from olympic medals.
