You haven't answered about the invasion of Afghanistan so be okay with that.
The master defending its lapdogs, understandable as it would make your pets uncomfortable. Do not worry you can call them allies on paper, while plenty Europeans and other people around the world view them as lapdogs :D

Every nation on this planet has ambition of great power but how they achieve it differs but it will involve guns and politics. As for the word Samurai, it doesn't say much as they only spent 3-4 years wreaking havoc here compared to the 333 years of wreaking havoc by the Conquistadors or the 40 years being trapped in a "cinema house" by the Cowboys.

We are aware of the hell Japan brought during WW2 and while we will not forget what they did, we will not dwell on it and move on.

Your memory is too short or rather your knowledge of history is lacking as Japan has a long record of military expansion. It has repeatedly tried to invade Korea ever since the Tang dynasty, and only to be beaten back repeatedly by China. The only time Japan did successfully conquered Korea, it quickly expanded into China causing massive carnage that would put the conquistador in shame. As long as Japan still have an itch for power, it will again try to expand, which is exactly why it is now trying to undo the restraint placed on it after the defeat of WWII.

Whatever you said. Whether they want to join us in the fight in Afghanistan or Iraq it is their choice.

You are talking about the Battle of Baekgang-gu between Tang Dynasty and Silla against Yamato-period Japan. Well, my knowledge about Japanese history is not that much though I am aware of the Japanese invasion of Korea, sometimes known as "Imjin War" which was fought from 1592 to 1598.

Yes, adding those to the frequent incursion of "samurai" along the Chinese coast thought out the 15-16 centuries, why do you think China should expect Japan to behave any different? Japan today wants to return to its militarism of the past, and where do you think that will lead to?

If Japan wants to start a war, then it should have done so by now. By now Japan is only re-arming besides, aside from China, the other countries that have issues on a re-arming Japan are the North and South Korea.

A war will only break out if both side gives each other a bloody reason to shoot at each other.

If Japan wants to start a war, it first need to remove its master and completely undo Article 9 of its constitution, that's a slow and long process and its only half way there.

I doubt that the US will remove their bases in Japan and let them go even if the Japanese government attempts to do so unless something happens in the US.

Thats Great this means we will see the Rising Sun Again :D Looks like its coming back in times when there were more than 1 super powers indeed USA is top right now but its budget cuts might give other countries like CHINA RUSSIA JAPAN to get some good position USA in terms of Military.

My Nihon friend! A true, equal partnership alliance is akin to something like China-Russia. Neither of us will take order from the other but we can support each other. That is an alliance. Your relationship on surface is an alliance, but in close door, it's a master-puppet relation. US gave the order, you follow. If the US told you to "sit", you better not stand up! LOL
you mean to say, just like higher then mountains frienship *sly*

on topic-Japan has been pacifist long enough, times have changed, they need to change too.
