RELATIONSHIP WITH US: PAKISTAN’S OPTIONS NOW

akistan never had any "options" when it came to US
Yes agreed Pak have no options ,because Pak is there where Pakistan belongs, but US is there where US not belongs.i wish Pakistan remain in the position of no options,so nature will bring its Decision.

Not true. We are a major NATO ally and receive some of the largest amounts of military aid from the US in the world. Also, Israel couldn't care less about us. Mainly because we can wipe them off the face of the earth.

Ever heard of: "keep my friends close and my enemies closer"?

May the Lord give me strength! I just cannot fathom the mentality of those Pakistanis who are victims of appearances. What NATO does in broad daylight and what she does in dark of night are two wholly different states.

To the contrary, Israel DOES care: Pakistan has the potential capability of frustrating her expansionist designs & of what you have stated.

Here is some wisdom:

Asad: O YOU who have attained to faith! Do not take the Jews and the Christians for your allies: they are but allies of one another - and whoever of you allies himself with them becomes, verily, one of them; behold, God does not guide such evildoers.

Woe betide Pakistan if this is the discernment of the educated Pakistani man. Woe betide her!

The US won't go to war with us, that would be incredibly stupid. We can literally nuke all their oil buddies and wipe Israel off the map. The would be incredibly damaging to the US.

Also, they would have another Afghanistan on their hands, but this time the militants will have access to nuclear technology. Not to mention Pakistan has 200 million people, where as Afghanistan has only 30 million people.
Which nation do you think the Bush Administration threatened to bomb back to stone age after the 9/11 episode?

Should this war ever occur (God forbid), it will be entirely different in scale and tactics in comparison to what US demonstrated in Afghanistan. US will also bring those assets to bear that it have not so far.

Israel is developing a missile defense shield to protect its mainland. Even if Pakistan gets through its defenses, I am not sure how that would hurt the US. A nuclear attack on Israel might motivate US to unleash its own weapons of mass destruction without a second thought.

As for the oil buddies; American oil imports have reached their lowest point in a span of decades at present. Reason is that US is producing its own oil and exploring alternative sources of energy to fulfill its needs.

You know, sometimes you only need to do the simplest things to come out of a tight corner.

America.....is being the pretty blond sorority girl that a Pakistani guy will never understand. She is in a relationship one day and wants to be left alone the other. Because she needs her "space". She doesn't wanna break-up with you but only wants to be on a break to "reevaluate" things.

Thats all it is folks. It's election year in town here. So there will be some mood swings, some tantrums. No full blown break ups but just a break, some distance to look at things differently. Come next year the pretty blond girl will be calling the guy again. And if the guy is smart and can deal with the tentrums, he gets to sleep with her again. And hey, no marriage either.
Do not agree this is different this time so stop this please and do a real analysis based on current sentiment in US towards Pakistan.

The military establishment should come clean about its Afghan policy. What exactly is the military establishment doing that is antagonizing the US? The public should be made aware of these ground realities.

We cannot suggest a middle-ground or way out of Afghan mess without clear understanding of the issues in focus.

Ok, the worst time in the US-Pakistan relationship was in 2011. Both sides pulled through it two years later. Things aren't nearly bad as they were in 2011.

F-16s can still be purchased, no one's denying pakistan those. The FMF funds can still be utilized to purchase other military equipment. For the rest, we just gotta wait it out a little and engage the Americans again next year.

Obama recently mended ties with cuba, and this week further with Vietnam. This is geo-politics. Things that you don't see eye to eye on today can be revisited some other time.

RELATIONSHIP WITH US: PAKISTAN’S OPTIONS NOW
QASIM MEHMOOD QURESHI
MAY 23, 2016

If we look at the sequence of events, starting from Jan 2016 to May 2016, there is a strategic shift in Pak-US relations. Previously, State Department of US had informed its determination to sell eight fighter jets to Pakistan. Later, US withdrew funds for F-16 deal and demanded full payment without subsidy on the sale of F-16s. Pakistan has told the US in a response that it will look for alternatives if US failed to fulfil its commitment regarding F16s. This is not over yet, though. On May 6, media witnessed another move of US congress when its members suggested blocking financial aid to Pakistan. One can easily understand that this was not a sudden change in US polices towards Pakistan, rather a planned strategy. The speculations stemming from this move are that Pakistan alone was responsible for the weakening of security situation in Afghanistan. Nothing favorable is in foresight, for either the future of Pak-US relations or for peace process in Afghanistan.

US may want to use F-16s as leverage against Pakistan and for the same old thing ‘Do More’. US has been asking Pakistan for so long to take action against Haqqanis which they consider to be the main problem in Afghanistan but in reality the Haqqanis were never powerful or capable enough to tackle the NATO forces like they did previously against the Soviets. Congress has a perception that Pakistan is using the military aid to increase its nuclear stockpiles and not using the funds in war against terrorism. This is the phenomenon which Indian lobby is also propagating for so long though they don’t have any specific logic behind this perception. Indian lobby never wanted US to sell F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan because of the fear that they would be used against India after removing the terrorists from Pakistani territory or maybe they didn’t want Pakistan to get rid of terrorism and keep on getting targeted by the terrorists.

Refusal of F-16 fighter jet s to Pakistan will lead to some serious issues for both the countries. The domestic politics of both the states will take a slight change and policymakers in Pakistan will be forced to think about the reliability of US as an ally in this war. In such scenario, one can easily assume that USA doesn’t want Pakistan to be strong and pose any kind of threat to India or gain more influence in Afghanistan. In this critical moment when Congress is not playing its part, it doesn’t mean that Pakistan should become Iran or North Korea. Even if somehow GHQ and Pentagon work out F-16 deal and 450 million dollars military aid issues, it is evident that the interests of both the countries have come to a level where they can only be described as “colliding” or “contradictory”.

Still, Pakistan has two very important cards which can be put on table at any time; first by increasing the ties with Iran and second by using China to send a strong message to USA about the options Pakistan still has. Different analysts who believe that by denying the military aid of fighter jets, USA will squeeze Pakistan may not be entirely correct because things have changed now and Pakistan has been playing a bit independently in foreign relations which were considered to be dictated by the external powers previously. Pakistan’s policy in Yemen’s case and relations with Moscow and Iran can be taken as examples.

It is probably the time that someone from Pakistan should remind the US congressmen and senators that there used to be a time after 9/11 when US officials and these congressmen would make a beeline to Islamabad, regret past behavior of the USA towards Pakistan (including infamous discriminatory Pressler Amendment) while pledging that their country would never again abandon Pakistan. To make a point, they designated Pakistan as a major non-Nato ally. They seemed repentant for their mistake of abandoning and penalizing Pakistan post Afghan jihad against Soviet invasion of that country and were all praise for Pak role in CEATO, SENTO, and Afghan jihad. The current overall US behavior towards Pakistan is as shortsighted, disgustingly discriminatory, and contrary to US interests, if not more, as the one in the past. US now seems determined promoting and assisting India (hoping it to act as a counter weight against China) at Pakistan's cost. Some people say that super powers think at least fifty years ahead of time. I would rather say that the officials of this accidental super power don't think even fifty days ahead of time.

It is probably the time that someone remind Pakistani politicians and military leaders of the Quran and what it states about allying oneself with those People of the Book who themselves are allies of one another.

Pakistan should involve Russia as Syria did than usa went like bheegi belli time to show their old nemises u see they run

Give gwadar port space for Russian naval ships

Quick fact, Pakistan never had any "options" when it came to US.
This is an argument of mentally slave person....Every nation, and every individual has an option....the problem with slaves is that they do not have faith in themselves....they don't have faith in their God too...because God gives options and opportunities to everyone.

why some Pakistanis have such attitude of cowardliness? in this region which country is not going through issues? does Iran dont have issue on its border? one side ISIS in iraq 50 thousand solders they have send in Syria they have worst relations now with arabs as well as pakistan is also not friendly but yet they are solid as rock

KSA ... ISIS on border in iraq, hotis are in Yemen, behrain is having its own issues and estren province is also having violence in it but yet they are strong

Turkey... issues with Syrians ... problems with Kurdish forces and so on recently attack has taken place near Russian bases in Syria and turkey has again dragged in to war but they solid as rock.

every body fighting its war with honor and dignity and our forums are filled up with very negative comments , trust me Pakistan will pull back as a great nation if just once they have taken a brave standoff. beside that i wonder if a huge number of neighboring country users are floating in using pakistani identities to post the negative buzz in this forum under the tag of "wolf in sheep clothing" :D
