Post-transition: Relations with Pakistan to stay unchanged, says China
By Qamar ZamanPublished: November 16, 2012
ISLAMABAD: The 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has set forth new targets for the future with reform as a salient feature for China’s new epoch.
However, maintaining Sino-Pak relations is a priority.
Briefing a select group of journalists about the transition, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Liu Jian said, “no matter what changes come at the international frontier, our (Pak-China) friendship will remain untouched.”
“Though there is change of leadership, there is no change in policy,” the ambassador affirmed.
He said that Pakistan and China have always been ‘all-weather-friends’. “We will continue upholding bilateral relations between the two countries. That is on top of the agenda.”
Liu Jian said that China and Pakistan should work closely to meet regional challenges.
“We should support each other against foreign interference for upholding sovereignty and independence,” he said.
The Ambassador also suggested encouraging interactions between the youth of the two countries.
Earlier, President Asif Ali Zardari during an interaction with the Chinese media felicitated the newly elected leadership of China and the 18th Central Committee of CPC.
“On behalf of the people of Pakistan, the Government, I wish to congratulate the Communist Party of China for smoothly electing its new Central Committee and a new leadership,” a message by the President stated.

Yes, Pakistan and China are strong allies.

Both are neighbors, Both are Eastern countries, they have no problems, solved whatever issue was between them according to just and moral principles.

Long live Pakistan and China. Long live Pak-Sino friendship. May our relations and cultural exchange go ever higher.

Hopefully what the new premier of China has to say about Pakistan is most important. I want what the new Chinese leadership has in stock for Pakistan and itself.

Leadership transition changes nothing because China's foreign policy remains same ... He didn't even need to say that ...

Pakistan need to be careful to not take friendship of China for granted - as it stands now, many Pakistanis think of China as if it were a giver of AID, a bit like US or UK, that is to say that some Pakistanis see China as a free meal ticket - I hope China will always be clear that it is not interested in such a relationship because it is ultimately corrosive and harmful to all involved in such a relationship.

Yeah! Keep saying that to yourself ;)

There was a time when similar claims were made about American freindship with Pakistan :D

No , that is what China has proved from time to time ... This isn't the first time of leadership transition in CCP ...

US was never ever considered a reliable all weather friend ... It had done enough to prove it ...

In that case, it was pretty idiotic of Pakistani govt to turn the ideology of their whole nation upside down in 1980's on behest of a country that they didnt even consider an all weather friend :D

Indeed so !

But this isn't the thread to talk about it , right ? :azn:

Exactly right.

We have a one-party system, which means continuity of policy.

Even if it was otherwise, our geo-strategic interests remain the same. We can't change the geography of the world, Pakistan will always be on our Xinjiang border and as such we will always need Sino-Pakistani cooperation.

Au contraire.. This is a case in point to show how Pakistan seems to be repeating the same mistake of its past, though with a different partner this time..

“We should support each other against foreign interference for upholding sovereignty and independence,” he said.

When has this happened? China will provide all the lip service, but, on ground except for selling stuff via soft loans nothing is going to happen. There is no budgetary support or developmental aid going to come from China. Its a brilliant strategy of China. Meets their foriegn policy goals perfectly. Hats off to them.

Do not attempt to derail the thread by comparing apples and oranges here , I have seen this soft trolling from you many times before ...
