Reinventing the Nation: Made in China 2025

.
This is a very sensible approach. Each city cannot be a jack of all trades, hence it makes sense to capitalize on their respective strengths.

I wonder what the other cities will be specializing in or focusing on?

I concur with your view.

China has a full spectrum of industrial economy, size of which far exceed any other nation. China is also a large country with 620+ cities, if we describe "Made in China 2025" initiative as "Industry 4.0", then naturally some cities will fall in other categories like "Industry 3.0", "2.0" or even "1.0" subject to their very own stage of development, socio-economic condition and trade position.
  • The 4 direct municipalities, 2 SAR's and 28 regional capitals (of the 23 provinces and 5 autonomous regions) are Metropolitan cities carrying almost all trades, these are quite unlikely to be included at least in the early phases.
  • For "Made in China 2025" or "Industry 4.0", I think the 5 direct-plan municipalities (计划单列市) are more likely to be included in the pilot phase, including Ningbo which has now been confirmed as first pilot. The other 4 are Dalian, Qingdao, Xiamen and Shenzhen.
  • In order to develop mid-west, several cities in the region might be added.

the aim of "Made in China 2025" or "Industry 4.0" is to shortern and to contain the production chain as much as possible, to minimize the labour need as much as possible, so finially, you have industry or you don't have it, there will be no so called low-cost manufacturing at all, that is called "smart industry" or " comprehensive industry".

Are you trolling Shanghai bro? Just kidding, you are quite right indeed, we will largely remain a financial center, an international shipping/logistics hub. Ningbo is a well-developed city, has solid industrial foundation as @yusheng has introduced, it's an ideal city as pilot for "Made in China 2025".

Though high-tech manufacturing is a minor part of our economy, we do have some like COMAC, an aerospace supply chain, SMIC (Semiconductor), a military complex building naval equipment, ZMPC (which provides 70% port equipment in global market), Baoshan Steel (advanced materials) and several high-tech or "smart manufacturing" zones, etc.

Thanks! I do see a trend that manufacturers from China Mainland as well as from Taiwan are beginning to setup bases in India, especially in consumer electronics. I believe biopharma, medical products, are also worth exploring.

You are welcome bro. If you need any further info about national (or global) industrials, financials or geo-economics, feel free to contact me.

I like how your government has a clear "Vision" for everything from agriculture to aerospace :china:
Make in India can certainly draw some lessons from "Made in China"

Ningbo has many delicious food, just for example,
sea food noodle:

in order to keep the natural flavou of sea food, usuall methods to cook the sea food is steaming and poaching,
however, when cooking fresh water fish, we will add vegetables or bean products, and other seasons.

So after this festival, sea food will be cheaper?

Yes, most low-cost manufacturing will die....
The second half of 21st century will be a total disaster to those countries with no awareness of such trend.

Just read an interesting thread

yes, the cheapest time is in autumn, fishing forbidden period is over, and sea creatures have a good time during the summer and grow up. October is the best time to teast sea food in NIngbo.

thanks, not only the robot using factories, but imformation oriented and personal oriented industry.
in fact, industry 4.0 ≠ China made 2025, they are different.

I've always felt automation will give Chinese manufacturing more advantage. other countries will not be able to compete. cheap labor or not.

Yes, using robots to replace human on repetitive jobs can improve accuracy (hence quality), production efficiency (robots work 24-7) and even work-floor safety (less industrial injuries to human). Note, robotics itself is a machine that require human attention, a smaller but more educated/skillful workforce will develop, control and maintain these machines.

The model is also proven, just look at robots density in Germany and Japan. In South Korea, it even reaches a jaw-dropping level of 487 robots per 10,000 workers. China should walk the same path, targeting 150 robots per 10,000 workers by 2020, installing more than rest-of-the-world-combined.

When manufacturing is highly automated, next generation society can free up more manpower to innovation, to services and leisure. Welcome to the 21st century!

good point. lesser intelligent people say robots will put millions of Chinese out of work. Japan, Germany disagree. Japan unemployment rate stands at 4%

Yes.....labor is saved for service sector....and the money they earn in manufacturing even increases at the expenses of lesser workers.

Looks like China is winning the hearts and minds of Kazakhs. Who's next in Central Asia?
The beginning of China's softpower?
AliExpress is also one of my favorite when purchasing online.

From 'made in China' to 'created in China', Kazakh people bear witness
2016-08-28 11:03Xinhua Editor: Mo Hong'e

"Lenovo, Huawei, Xiaomi...... Many young people in Kazakhstan use more and more products made in China with high technology," Gulmira Nurumgaliyeva told Xinhua on Saturday.

Gulmira, a fashionable Kazakh girl, was attracted by Chinese calligraphy in the Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition held in Almaty, the largest city of Kazakhstan.

"China is an old country with many creations in history," Gulmira said, pointing at the items at the exhibition, which is part of a four-day "Feel China" project in Kazakhstan.

"Now we are witnessing more and more products designed by China with high technology," she continued.

"Anyway, lots of my friends start to prefer using mobile phones and other digital products from China." Gulmira said.

Good quality, easy to use, reasonable prices and cool designs are the reasons why young people in Kazakhstan like digital products made in China, Gulmira explained.

In Sulpak, one of the biggest telecommunication & electrical equipment chain stores in Kazakhstan, out of ten mobile phones sold every day, three to four were made in China, a salesman told Xinhua.

"We started to know 'made in China' through Chinese clothing and small commodities, then we are used to Chinese digital products. Now we are surprised by China's rapid development of technology and innovation in so many fields," said Galim, a visitor to the Chinese smart life exhibition held in Almaty, also part of "Feel China" project in Kazakhstan.

Green, smart and modern are the main features of the smart life exhibition. Visitors have opportunities to feel smart technologies already combined with ordinary life in China, such as online services, VR (virtual reality) and digital face recognition.

Mitet Zhumabaev, a resident in Almaty, said his life is closely connected with China through internet. One of his favorite websites is the AliExpress, an online retail service made up of mostly small Chinese businesses offering products to international online buyers.

He said that now in Kazakhstan, many people buy things through cross-border e-commerce.

People here use QIWI internet wallet, which is designed by Russia and easy to find recharge terminals in public shopping places, to buy things on AliExpress.

In May, Kazakhstan's national sovereign wealth fund Samruk-Kazyna, together with the Kazakh telecom and post companies, signed a memorandum of understanding with Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba to promote cooperation in e-commerce, payment and logistics.

AliExpress has become one of the top ranking online trading platforms in Kazakhstan, with clothes, home appliances and digital products being the favorites of local consumers, according to Alexa, a commercial web traffic data provider wholly owned by Amazon.com.

"Made in China" is no longer the same as in the past. It now brings people more creations, innovations and smart technologies.

Its good Kazakhstan is more influence by Chinese than their Turkey counterpart who is trying to spread ultra conservative Islamic to them despite more lineage by their Turkish root. Chinese influence will help Kazakhstan progress faster and reduce more poverty. Making them a more advance country.

Made in China, one of the world's largest oil tankers tested

One of the world’s largest oil tankers, designed and made by the Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company, has started test operations in the Bohai Sea off China’s northeastern coast. With a tonnage of 308,000, the tanker's enormous capacity means it can store up to 2.2 million barrels of crude oil. Despite its size, the entire tanker requires a crew of fewer than 30 members, thanks to high levels of automatization on board.

China’s manufacturing industry to foresee tremendous growth in robotics adoption by 2018

A "Robotics in China Industry" report by IDC revealed that the adoption rate of robotics in the country's manufacturing industry will grow by 150 percent by 2018.

This is primarily due to contributing pull and push factors.

"The three pull-factors are the rising labour cost, increasingly ageing population, and global competition, whereas the push-factors are national initiatives, innovation and investment in robotics," said Jing Bing Zhang, Research Director, Robotics, IDC Asia Pacific.

The report also shed light on other key findings. For instance, engineering-oriented value chain (EVOC) companies are currently the largest adopters of robotics in China due to the complexity of products and manufacturing processes.

Besides that, brand-oriented value chain (BOVC) companies are expected to experience fastest growth in two years as they increasingly automate factory processes.

The report also found that although assets and technology-oriented value chain (AOVC and TOVC) companies are adopting robots at a slower pace, there are a handful of cases which can drive growth in the next two years.

"With more vendors entering the market, end-user companies will find it increasingly more challenging to select the right vendors and right solutions for their applications. Where necessary, end-user companies are recommended to obtain a neutral party's opinion to ensure selected vendors are capable of meeting their near and long term business needs," concluded Zhang.
