Yes, really. Right after 9/11, a band of US Special Forces operators brought down the Taliban. Afghanistan was lucky that the US restrained ourselves.

9/11 was 20 years ago. The world has changed. Small countries like Pakistan and North Korea are showing cokc to USA. USA cannot dare to fight China, US has never fought a war on equal terms with any enemy in its history, what makes you think it will now fight ?

USA defeated Axis Powers in both World Wars, USSR in Cold War, and Iraq in two separate wars. I am not sure from where this notion of 'USA lost in every war' stem from. This line of thought might encourage geopolitical miscalculations in coming years.

Every war is different from the next and not fought in same manner. Americans have the unfortunate habit of executing low stakes conflicts to feed their Military Industrial Complex from time-to-time. This was the case in Afghanistan recently. It's not like Taliban are supernatural beings who cannot be defeated; Taliban could not handle US-led forces in actual battles on the ground. They simply waited for NATO to call it quits. Americans have the firepower to GLASS entire region otherwise. Let us not delude ourselves.

US-China conflict dynamic is entirely different from that of Afghanistan.

actually it was USSR that did the heavy lifting... the red army took on 2/3 of the German Army and nearly all it's panzer corps...Americans struggled against a depleted Rommel in North Africa.. ps don't even bother to mention what happened at Kasserine Pass.

it took USAF less than 10 years to train, equip, re tool, establish SOP, process for recruting, set up all aviation related schools, operations and maintenance. etc PAF starting from 1950s. by 1965 PAF took on the IAF an airforce 3 times it's side and gave it a very bloody nose.

in contrast the Afghan airforce armed with simple piston planes struggles to launch sustained COIN against the Taliban ... a group that doesn't have an airforce.

We can. Just because the US recruit allies does not mean we do not have the resources and the tactics to defeat China by ourselves. You forget that China is TRYING to be a sea power while the US have been a sea power since its inception. If there is going to be a shooting fight between the US and China, it will be at sea, not land.

that was a unconventional war and Taliban do not operate aircraft carriers and 5th generation fighters

you try and take on the Americans in the conventional sense and they will make the Marianas Turkey shoot look like Kindergarten stuff

11 x Fleet Carriers + 10 x Amphibious assault ships

And a single USN Carrier would wipe out the 2 Casino Carriers and 003 might last few extra days

USN has built over 80 fleet carriers and 100s of flat decks and with over 100 years experience, China would stand Zero chance

USSR defeated Nazi Germany. Japan was far weaker than the US to start, having 1/5 the GDP and 1/2 the population. Iraq is not comparable with 1/50 the GDP and 1/8 the population. If that's something worth bragging about then China defeating India in 1962 with equal GDP and population must be the most glorious victory in human history.

It took the US 50 years to exhaust the Soviets who had already been backstabbed by Nazi Germany and had an economy 1/4 to 1/2 the size of the US at all times with roughly equal population (and lower population in the Warsaw Pact than NATO).
