The story of drunk rats infuriated SSP Maharaj so much that he issued orders of conducting breath analyzer test of policemen in each and every police station in the district.

HIGHLIGHTS
On Tuesday this week, Patna SSP Manu Maharaj had convened a meeting of Station House Officers (SHOs) to review the law and order situation and the crime graph in their respective areas ahead of the upcoming Patna Municipal Corporation elections. During the meeting, Maharaj queried the SHOs about the status of liquor seizures in the "maalkhana". To his surprise, several police officers informed him that liquor worth crores of rupees had gone missing and they reasoned that rats present at the "maalkhana" have perhaps consumed the missing liquor.
It is notable that ever since prohibition was imposed in Bihar on 5th April, last year, excise officials and police have confiscated more than 5 lakh litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor and approximately 3 lakh litres of country-made liquor from across the state in last one year. These liquor seizure worth crores of rupees have been stocked in various "maalkhanas" in different police stations across the state.
Sensing foul play by police officers of secretly selling the liquor in the market or consuming themselves has triggered Patna SSP to conduct breath analyzer test done randomly. Following the diktats from the Patna SSP, many police stations have begun with the exercise of protecting liquors bottles from rats by sprinkling rat poison at the "maalkhanas".
"We have been instructed by our SSP to protect the liquor bottles from rats and therefore we are ensuring this. Conducting breath analyzer test of policemen is also a welcome step," said Ravi Bhushan, SHO Kankarbagh.
