Reminds me of this thread from yesterday

http://www.defence.pk/forums/americas/200724-us-mosque-burned-ground-3.html#post3276001

Read the comments and none of these American Pakistanis and Indians have actually condemned the act of Burning a place of worship..All are aplogetics and Blaming all on Muslims..

Now look at this thread how many are jumping up and down to condemn a random act by police which caused no harm to property or life....

Shows peoples bigoted biased minds and slave mentality...

What if the restaurant owners or workers are fasting?
Why would they open restaurant if they dont want their patrons to come. I would guess anybody who keeps their restaurant open expects people to come and eat.

^^^ lol...that is a good point

For non muslims and to prepare for the night, when the fast opens.

bigotry and cheap shots aside...

it does look like the police had some other motives behind the raid..
there is a law which prohibits publicly eating during ramazan, but its unheard of that it has actually been imposed and people convicted.

What if the restaurant owners or workers are fasting?

It is not as though the customer is stealing the food he is paying good money which pays for the worker's wage which he uses to buy his family food and so in a way the non fasting people have helped all those that own and work at the restaurant. But in your previous post you are against food being served to muslims but non muslims can eat with impunity so how can a Policeman know who is a Muslim and non-muslim unless they do a circumcision check. On a serious note issues of religion should be left between the individual and his maker.

You do not see many Muslims in the West calling the fast-police to crack down on all the eating drinking smoking that is going around them, so what is the big issue in PK. Is our faith so weak and our religion so low in talent that we have to ask the Police to give up their valuable time chasing criminals and terrorists to go and bust some people in T-shirts and jeans with nice computers who happen to know what a slim latte is and force them to leave a privately owned property where people were not doing anything and harrass them for not being hungry or thirsty or unconcerned about their own fate in the afterlife.

Live and let live, if you espouse intolerance then you cannot demand equality and tolerance for you in another corner of the world. As they say if you tolerate this rubbish your children will be next.

Although we do a lot of charity and good during ramazan..But you guys choose to ignore all that and bring up negativity..
shame on you

Pakistani people need to understand not everyone cares for fasting, don't regulate whether people can eat or drink in public or not (besides its not like people are going to eat a meal as they're walking), if people want to eat during fasting hours that's fine. The more this kind of intolerance continues to more people will push for secularism.

I'm also not fasting this Ramadan and I'm eating and drinking as I would normally.

No..no I was talking about inconveniencing societal sensibilities ! I can't understand how logically it would inconvenience anyone if I were to burn a poppy when commerating the death of British soldiers of ages past and present and thereby registering my protest at the continued British presence in Afghanistan or the British role in Libya or Iraq before that...it doesn't make any logical sense ! I'm not burning his/her casket, I'm not even near you, I'm not even desecrating his/her grave afterwards ! What possible rationale could be behind the demand to ask me to leave and if I don't move to do it forefully ? Answer - Because the society finds it unacceptable ! Thats the same principle I'm applying here; the society finds such unbriddled and unabashed proliferation of food and drinks to be against the sanctity of Ramazan and therefore, keeping that in mind, they decided not to allow it anymore !

I, as someone, who doesn't fast, am inconvenienced by it but there is nothing that I can say that points towards its irrationality !

Your parallel with puppy burning is lame. Burning puppy is an action one has to take to make a point. Eating is for self preservation, there is no point to be made by eating. I am not talking about guys who eat infront of muslims in pakistan with an aim to offend them. (Although I would tend to think such people do not exist in pakistan)

Society does not find eating in restaurant unacceptable, which is why the surprise. Many people do not know existance of such a law. People will not keep their resturant open if it was socially unacceptable to do so.

All those actions you said also are symbolic. Which is why I think this is a symbolic thing too.

I am talking about simple things for a working person like me, who is not fasting, what are the option available (other than hiding myself and being invisible from muslims ). I am not into unbriddled and unabashed profligation of food, especially when I have to buy it from restaurant.

Stay on topic please. Its good that people do a lot of charity during ramadan. Thats not the point. Even fasting (occasionally) is good for health. That is also not the point.

Which brings much good than you guys can even comprehend....

Pakistanis do understan that mr.American.
Isolated incidents does not represent the whole country and nothing wrong with condemning people who are in the wrong..

Yeah, but this is not about good bits, its not about bad bits. Its about a specific legislation in a specific country.

Woah, plenty times, I remember eating and drinking in front of fasting Muslims and just recently realized the folly in what I did, I have started making a point of not eating or smoking when I am among Muslims now during Ramazan. But one thing I remember they never minded my doing it and when without knowing I offered them they politely refused pointing to the fact that they were fasting.
That's out of the goodness of your heart, and the response of a polite refusal is the standard one you should expect. But that's in India. In Pakistan it appears that there's a law forbidding Muslims from eating or drinking in public places during Ramazan, and therefore normal for the police here to apply it if they're feeling light in the wallet!

Can someone confirm whether Pakistanis don't watch **** during Ramadan?
