Imagine having multiple strike-squadrons of rafales in 2009!!! indian airforce would have been feared across S.A/Middle-East...Now, india might get rafales in 2019..and honestly, who gives a fcuk?

By that time, Air Forces around the world..and in the region..would not feel the same effect of rafales in indian hand.

Look Saudi Arabia...and look at their airforce!

In couple of years, they have transformed their air force from unknown entity to the most technologically superior air power in Middle-East/South Asia region...

And if by that time Bangladesh orders some large number off 4.5 generation fighter jets it would be game changer

French air force only has 45 Rafale C single seat fighters. Pathetic. Pakistani air force has 49 JF-17, all of which are single seat fighters since there is no trainer version of JF-17.

I agree wholeheartedly bro. That's why I say let Modi and the current govt make a better decision. After seeing so much ingrained corruption in the last gov't, everything they did has to be combed over with a brush. The mere fact that Modi plans on getting rid of archaic laws and repealing it, is great step forward.


I say go for either EFT or the new upgraded Super Horent. You'll find posters here who keep on harping about what the US did back then and such. But think about it, if the US plays that game again, they will loose out alot more in the future.

EFT is much more expensive than Rafale both in terms of off-the shelf and TOT along with Life-cycle costs.

Rafale has been shown to IAF brass in live demos during Libyan Intervention. I think the French targeted Gaddafi forces when IAF brass was watching.

The F/A 18 is being replaced by F-35. Why should we buy such aircraft? We are not like the country to whom this forum belongs to buy aircraft of a gone era.

The EFT deal will cost upwards of $20 billion.
Rafale does seem like a good deal ATM.

S.Swamy is a deadly lawyer. I have great respect for him but i think he should leave this deal out of his arsenal to send Sonia to jail with. National Herald and 2G should be his focus.

Good analysis, but the excerpt from your post above mentions a probable 7-10 sqn shortfall, but remember, by 2022 we'd be having at least 2-3 sqns of the FGFA too, which would be a force multiplier.

It's just not about quantity but the quality too.

If Swami is stating there is corruption , then nobody should allow this to go further till it is resolved. If the military suffers, so be it. This is a chance to pin Sonia. By all means, they should. Corruption is an evil that has screwed us for decades. We can never expect to move forward because the scale of corruption in India is massive.

Mostly i agree with your points.

But EFT has a known spare parts problem. The RAF cannibalises other aircraft just to keep EFT fleet combat ready.
Rafale has no such spare parts problem.

The Rafale has so far not crashed due to technical faults.
All 4 incidents were 100% pilot error.

EFT has had engine troubles and other unknown reasons for crash.

Libya under Gaddafi has a reasonable military.

Throw Sonia in jail or let military prosper.

I pick the latter.

Sonia can go jail via national herald.
