What's new

Rafale and JF-17 Thunder to compete in Serbia.

maybe you need to tell them that so they stop considering it.

then present them with LCA which is based on Starship Enterprise.

don't you know LCA is the chuck norris. It can wipe out entire PAF and return back to base unscatthered.

yup there is that.

but I cant fault him for pointing out the truth about JF-17 being based on Mig-21
he sccored double points here.

first by getting the satisfaction of mocking our JF-17
and then prove us that JF-17 design is based on Mig 21, since it also has two wings, a single engine and single seat plane.
and whenever anyone sees a Mig-21 or JF-17 fglying, he will say oh look a plane. but the most compelling proof will be that some pilots of JF-17 might have flown Mig-21 in the past.

The THREAD IS A VERY STRANGE TOPIC.

Why would any airforce SHORTLIST 2 fighters that are poles apart in MATURITY, COST AND TECHNOLOGY.

One is a single engined cost effective chinease fighter BRAND NEW to this world with pure chinease technology and arms . at roughly $15m

THE OTHER.

The most expensive and probably the most advanced 4th generation twin engined Multi role fighter from Europe. VERY EXPENSIVE at $100m each and horrendus cost of weapons at $1million each for the BVRs

the rafales mission profile is enormous including 500km cruise missles and 5th generation EW suites spectra.

THE 2 OPTIONS are huge contrasts.

.
IMO

Rafale class fighters are Typhoon & F16/60 & Gripen NG

Fighters in the JFT class are

Gripen c/d,, F16/C/D,, MIRAGE2000-5 & J10

I AM LOOKING AT COST. both to buy and to operate & the technology they wud provide

.
Well the 1 Billion dollars would go well with the development of Block 3 fighters

How many more JF17 thunder Block 2 can we make with 1 Billion dollars ? probbly another brand new 400-500 fighters

indeed,
only Serbs can answer that. we are not complaining though
we thank them for considering our plane.

Like Storm Force I am utterly perplexed we are even having a Thunder vs Rafele debate, as it is clear to all which is superior. It is understandable, for a plane that costs 8-9 more you'd want justifiable reasons and there are plenty.

To me this smells like a not sl veiled attempt by Serbs to get Dassualt to lower their prices by getting the cheapest possible fighter to go up against. Wonder how desperate they will be after their series of setbacks.

but how low can French go? costs are from $80M upwards.

.
We are not comparing which fighter is better based on performance. Reality is, Serbia doesn't need Rafale because its too costly buying it and it is too costly maintaining it.

Moreover, Serbia doesn't have any enemies that are in arms race. Hence, JF-17 meets its needs.

Rafale will fail in the end as always. They are just trying to be in because they simply don't have a choice.

. .
Very good point, but I'm sure Serbs are aware of this and hence must be willing to pay this price. Why else waste everyone's time?

Probably Serbs are also planning to emulate our eastern neighbour in mmrca and they know the time it will take is more than enough for Thunder to mature into a world class 4+ gen fighter.

The Budget of Serbian Air Force is $1.3B, requirements are 12-16 Fighter Jets.

Rafale has limited chances where rest of the world have moved on to choose other platforms, Serbian Air Force would be the last to choose a platform with dead end where later on in future french could charge them twice for upgrades-spares, weapons. Rafale is an excellent platform but from marketing perspective and the Dassault's poor dealing with customers non would be interested to go for it unless france assures its price stability in future for the spares, weapons and upgrades.

Top contenders are US F-16 and russian offer followed by CAC JFT.

i dont kno why people keep on saying thunder cost 15 million...
even to PAF it costs per plane more than 25 million..to an export customer it would surely be in 30-35 million range
block 1 price tag was 5 years old..prices go up by 4-5% each year...plus 15 million was the lowest estimate..
so rafale is three to four times expensive not 9 times
P.S
even F-7 export price is 12-14 million

agreed. they should go for f-16blk 52+ as it falls under their budget
J-10 and Jf-17 could be the alternatives.
