Turkish F-16 jets had radar lock by an unidentified MIG-29 | idrw.org

Turkey confirms jets harassed by MIG-29

The Turkish military says its F-16 jets were harassed and put on radar lock by an unidentified MIG-29 aircraft on the Syrian border, after Russian fighter planes violated Turkish airspace at the weekend.

'Eight Turkish F-16 jets carried out reconnaissance flights over the Turkish-Syrian border (on Monday) and during this mission our jets were held on radar lock by an unidentified MIG-29 plane for a total of four minutes and 30 seconds,' the army said in a statement.

Radar lock-on enables missile systems to automatically follow a target.
In a separate incident, the same Turkish jets were also 'harassed by missile systems deployed in Syria for a total of four minutes and 15 seconds,' the army added.

It did not go into further detail about the nature of the harassment from the missile systems or whether the Turkish jets were in any danger.

Russian aircraft violated Turkish airspace on Saturday and on Sunday, prompting Ankara to summon the Russian envoy to the foreign ministry twice to protest the breach.

The army gave no indication that the MIG-29 was a Russian plane. It had also complained a similar incident involving an unidentified MIG-29 took place on Sunday.

In Brussels, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned Moscow on Tuesday against losing Turkey's friendship and said his country cannot remain 'patient' in the face of air space violations.

NATO's chief Jens Stoltenberg accused Russia of deliberately violating Turkey's airspace during its air campaign on Syria.

. . . .
Turkish Airforce is too good to be harassed by anyone, I think they are not interested to escalate the tension

. .
Who were the Migs flown by? Russia I'm assuming?

Turks are pros, they don't have to prove their balls to a cowboy locking his radar on them. NATO is losing patience, and if this trend continues it will lead to a clash. Last time an F-16 & a Mig-29 came face to face this is how it ended.

Don't get your hopes up, this means little. The Turks weren't being aggressive, and were simply trying to escort the Migs out of Turkish airspace, while the Russians were trying to push their luck. If they were really engaged in a dog fight, you'd see radically different results.

.
I would take this with a grain of salt. Turkey is looking for any excuse to make Assad/Putin look bad. until Russia confirms they locked up F-16s this is unconfirmed.

and you would think Turkish ground based radars would pick up Mig-29s/Su-30s as well . til they show those radar tracks I don't believe it.

I am hoping infact you should hope aswell that, regardless, pak f16 will still have superiority over Mig 29 any time in Indo Pak scenario but to believe that it will defiantly happen.
Anyway you are not escorting anybody out who has got a lock on you, just waiting for them to get out.
