'Racist' Gandhi statue banished from Ghana university campus

Even in the age of communication, it would be foolish to tear down existing images and try and create a new construct like what China has attempted to do.

I do credit Gandhi with all those adjectives I mentioned earlier, more importantly the world credits him with those qualities. Otherwise what really did jesus do except get nailed to the cross for attempting to modify the jewish religion. But today he is assigned a wide range of powers and qualities.

Besides, Gandhi was truly a humanist and he outgrew his earlier prejudice. You must remember that he was a product of british education and it took some time for him to outgrew the Macullay effect, and all that WITHOUT the internet and google that makes it so easy for us to find out the truth and strip propaganda.

Gandhi had to do it the long hard way.

I am no fan of Jesus either. Also considering Christianity is fast losing its grip on its home ground Gandhi does not hold much of a chance. Gandhi was an A grade AH. His humanism existed only for Muslims. He was a pedophile. No amount of de-Macullaying is going to wash that.

.
Gandhi was a pragmatic politician, not a saint. But in the end remember, it was he who permitted India to be carved into a Hindu majority Nation AFTER the british left India.

He was for muslims as long as they British ruled India, he did not want to divide the freedom struggle and fight the battle at two fronts.

The problem is when people forget that he was a politician and not a saint. Jinnah got it right when he called Gandhi a shrewd Baniya. Even Sardar patel knew that and respected Gandhi's strategy and his over all command of the freedom fight.

Let us be objective in our assessment.

As for his infamous tryst with his grand daughter, it was wen he was 77 years old and was beginning to loose his marbles and believe in his own myth.

One must grant him human frailties and not throw out the baby with the bath water.

Sorry, don't agree. His humanism for Muslims never faded considering he was batting for Pakistan long after India's partition. Not to mention other stuff.

Muslims were already in the British camp only Gandhi was too arrogant to see that.

He was an AH when he was young, when he was middle aged, and when he was old. There was never a time when he was not an AH.

.
Gandhi wanted to bring about peace between the new nations to ensure a better future for India. He could not have foreseen how history would play out. Maybe he could and that is why he recommended charity and good will.

Gandhi KNEW muslims were in the british camp, THAT IS WHY he had to go that extra mile for muslim appeasement. Can't you see that ?

I see no reason to dispute your personal view of Gandhi, only your public view and statements. Everyone should be free to form their own personal opinions, that is one of the basic tenets of hinduism. The search for the truth.

You are turning logic on its head when it comes to Gandhi. LOL. What you are saying is Gandhi was right in awarding the bully. Right in thinking feeding the croc is the right strategy in hopes that it would eat him the last.

I don't see you advocating such strategy vis-a-vis Pak as far as IWT goes or Balochistan. Where is charity and goodwill there which you want India to be known for?

.
If Rewarding the bully can help you achieve your final objective, then I do agree with Gandhi's play.

ONCE you achieve your objective, then you can deal with the Bully. Fight ONE battle at a time.

Even then its First 'Saam', then 'Dhan', then 'Dand' and then 'Bhed'.

If you view Gandhi from a truly nutral perspective you will see him for what he really was, its only when you look through the prism of popular culture and myth (created by western media for most parts) that one sees a distorted image of Gandhi.

I see no logical fallacy in this line of thinking.

When you are facing two crocodiles in the river, the smarter strategy is the feed the one nearest to you so that you have time to deal with the other.

We have already tried 'Saam' , Dhan and Dand with pakistan. So now its time for Bhed. That is what we did in Bangladesh war and that is what we should do now.

It is exactly what Gandhi would have done.

LOL. Yeah right Gandhi was going to do Bhed and Dand, only poor thing ran out of time.

"It is better to be violent, if there is violence in our hearts, than to put on the cloak of nonviolence to cover impotence." - Mahatma Gandhi

Stop looking at him as a Saint.

I never looked at him as a Saint and neither do I look at him as a successful politician. He was a political tool of the British and remained a political tool and screwed India royally.

.
India was screwed royally with or without him.

But with him, we got out of jail with minimal blood shed. How is that a bad thing ?

It would have been minimal blood shed even without him and 40 years earlier. It is laughable that a country the size of India had to wage an Independence struggle with a 30-40 k British presence.

.
That is where you are wrong.

If India had to gain independence from 30-40 K Britishers then we would have got independence in 1857 itself.

The real fight was against the brainwashed majority in India. And to win that fight it took a few generations. And no one knew it better than Gandhi.

Gandhi was a British introduced gatecrasher to the Swaraj initiative already aflame in India that time. Gandhi just distracted the nation's attention and delayed our independence. In fact Gandhi lamented that no national leader was willing to listen to him anymore. They were fed up of him.

.
The Swaraj initiative was burning since 1645 ever since Shivaji spoke about it and fought for it. Yet it took almost 400 years to come to fruition.

There has been various struggles in all parts of India from that time for that concept. The Yogi rebellion and the 1857 fight was just a few of the more well known fights.

Gandhi neither created it nor destroyed it, He just believed in it just like millions of other Indians and fought for it just like millions of other Indians.

Once we got Independence (thanks to Hitler and WW2) nobody listed to him anymore because like in every army, once the victory is gained, the Generals tend to fade away. Then its the bureaucrats who take over. That is the way of the world.

So you agree Gandhi had no part in gaining our independence. It was Hitler and WW2. Why this need to put him on pedestal then?

.
Gandhi too played his role in our independence. Why would I want to deny the truth and facts ? So did Savarkar and Bose and millions of unknown men and women.

Gandhi was the Acknowledged Leader of the Independence struggle. Everyone from Jinnah, Bose, Patel, British and Savarkar acknowledged it. So why should I deny it out of spite

I would grant him the same pedestal the people of India and the world gave him. That of a very influential leader and a great thinker and doer of his age.

A pedestal granted out of ignorance and manipulation of news and views. Well we are about to yank that pedestal off.

.
Cool

Just another question, who do you actually thought got the freedom for pakistan?

Both newly established countries, India and Pakistan (later being inheritor of thousands years old civilization) got freedom due to WWII.

Thats an honest opinion.

But that does not mean, we should in anyway not celebrate the great hardwork and efforts done by Quaid-e-Azam, Iqbal and thousands of other leaders, who lead us to this freedom in the first place.

@Joe Shearer You should visit this thread
Your countrymen literally cursing your founding father

I don't want to visit something somewhere of an inferior quality, when I have participated or have watched in fascination as far greater minds have studied that complete mystery that was Gandhi with great attention and care.

If you want to provoke me to say something to those inferior clods who match similar inferior clods on the other side, I shall not. I do not have so many years to live that I can afford to indulge myself with such prancing around in a cess-pool.

If, on the other hand, you want to ask yourself, and invite other people to ask themselves, what Gandhi was and what he stood for, and why he did some inexplicable things that he did, open a new thread and invite me, and others, but only if you respect our views for being our views and not because they are either the scriptural truth or as racy as a Hollywood script.

Ball in your court, @Narendra Trump.

Ambivalent. Bit of a hopeless fool maybe.

I felt sad to read this assessment.

. .
Don't worry too much rss can't promote their agenda outside of india

I am used to shallow assessments, but this is one of the worst. One of the mainstays of the RSS is its huge following in the US and in Britain and Canada. NRIs are far more conservative than Indians in India, but they are far less likely to do any damage because of the social and democratic and law-abiding framework within which they live and work.
